For the languages that I know well enough, I must say that I love the rhythm of Castilian Spanish the best
(although Spanish does come in many exciting flavors.) And while the people of Tours-La Touraine speak the most
balanced, beautiful continental French, God help me, I love the sound of the Québecois twang (from the Québec
City area.)

I was most fascinated by the Lachian dialect. It's spoken in a small area along the border of northeastern Czech Republic and southern Poland. When I first encountered it, it came off as a mix of Czech and Polish with German or Slovak-sounding words here and there for good measure. It was a bit like a Western Slavonic creole.

As for English or French, none of the dialects that I've been exposed to so far have blown me away or impressed me. I guess that I'm fairly desensitized to them :-P

What are your favorite dialects, for English or for any other language you speak/study, and why?

For English, I think my favorite dialect is Australian. I enjoy the vowel sounds, and the fact that they seem to be undergoing something similar to what happened during the Great Vowel Shift. In Spanish, I like listening to an Argentine accent, but I can't say exactly why. What about you?

I like Strine the best as well, especially if it's too broad for me to comprehend.

My favorites:

English: Jamaican
-If I concentrate hard enough,I can just make it out.

Portuguese: São Miguel Açores
-totally unintelligible, and unrecognizable, but fun to listen to because of all the strange sounds.

I don't know if Finland-Swedish sounds beautiful to someone who doesn't speak Swedish, it might be that you
have to know the rather boring standard dialect to appreciate it!
