Just in case you didn't know, the entire Teach Yourself series is is due for a relaunch in the first half of 2010. This includes all the language titles, obviously. So if you are thinking of learning with TY, then I recommend that you wait for the new editions, as long as you're not in a hurry. More material has been added, and they have been made even more user-friendly, with the addition of self-check tests and extra notes and insights. If you have any questions, as one of their language authors, I can probably answer them.

Perhaps they could correct the sigma problem with the Ancient Greek course. I would also love to see a "Teach Yourself Tamil".

I wish they would fix the audio. There is way too much English on them. Actually, it would be nice if there wasn't any English on them. I would just want the dialogues recorded on them.

They could use the scripts for all of the languages such as Japanese and Korean. That would be nice instead of Romaji in those.

Also, put more vocabulary, dialogues, reading passages, and better audio. Then I might use these courses more often.

The Korean one was pretty bad. I think I checked out some other ones from the library in the past and was equally disappointed with them.

I agree. A course that doesn't teach and use the native script is close to worthless in my opinion.

Those older romaji-only Japanese books like Teach Yourself and 500 Japanese Verbs (or whatever) seem like a
holdover from the days when publishers assumed Westerners were too stupid to actually learn Japanese.
