I found this great post on Benny the Irish Polyglot's website: Conversational Connectors.
I have frequently been going to Benny's website since sometime last year, but I must have over looked this post. I am especially glad I found it because my conversations seem to be how he described in this post.

I need to reevaluate my goals. Although I was recommended not to do goals on a specific day in a specific month, I think I am still going to use them because I think they will make me push myself. I do agree that mine are too short notice, and I need to push the days back a bit... maybe by a couple of months.
Here are Some of My Goals:
-Listen to anything in Russian for a half an hour every day.
-Read 500 words of Russian everyday.
-Everything I know how to say in Russian I need to speak, even if it is just one word in a sentence.
-Learn at least 20 words everyday... hopefully with most of the words from what I read.
-Speak to a native for a half an hour every weekend. (use Russian as much as possible)
-Memorize a text of 800-1200 words, divide it into three parts, recover the parts every week for three weeks, and then deliver it orally to a Russian native the fourth week.
-Learn 2 conversation connectors or phrases every day.
-I want to be able to sound as close as possible to a Russian... I don't know when I think I should be able to accomplish this
Feb. 31, 2011
Be able to read internet articles in Russian without the use of a dictionary
Be able to read Russian blogs without the use of a dictionary
Be able to read Russian newspapers without the use of a dictionary
Be able to read a Russian book without the use of a dictionary
May. 31, 2011
Be able to write diary entries in Russian without the use of a dictionary
Be able to send emails completely in Russian without the use of a dictionary
Be able to IM completely in Russian without the use of a dictionary
Jul. 31, 2011
Be able to listen to Russian podcasts and be able to understand them
Be able to listen to Russian news and be able to understand what is going on
Be able to listen to Russian radio and understand the songs and the commentary
Dec. 31, 2011
Be able to talk to a Russian native without the use of a dictionary or resorting back to English
Be able to express almost all of my thoughts in Russian whether or not the person I am speaking to speaks Russian
The only bad thing about these goals is I'm adding more and making them more difficult when I have less time because school started on Tuesday. I still think I will have enough time to complete all of my goals every day if I get down to business, start and finish my homework right after I get home from school, try and do as much homework as I can at school, etc. I know some people might think I'm crazy, but I really want to become fluent in Russian so the best way to do that is study as much as I can. And to do that I have to make strict goals so I stick to them.

Didn't quite complete all of my goals. I listened to Russian on Scola for 30 minutes, I only learned 7 words, I read a text of over 900 words, but I didn't translate the words and read through the passage understanding it as a whole so I am not going to count it, I am working on memorizing that text, and I didn't learn the 2 conversation connectors. Tomorrow I will complete all of my goals even if it kills me.

So I didn't do as well as I had hoped. I read 88 words, listened to a Russian podcast for a half an hour, and didn't learn any words. I am still working on memorizing that text. I started to think that I may be doing too much with too little time, but now I don't think that is the case. I think I am just not using my time wisely. I need to be listening to podcasts to and from school, bringing materials to school on my study hall days in case if I don't have any homework to work on, and I need to do my Russian work right after school instead of homework because I learned today that I just can't get my homework done if I start it right after school. I started my first assignment around 4, and I wasn't even half way through until 6:30. But then when Is started working on it later in the day I zoomed right through it. So for right now I am going to keep my goals and just try to find the extra time in my day and use it for Russian.
