They always repeat the word? Не "Шо ты делаешь?", а "Шо-шо ты делаешь?". Не верю. The second thought came to me because I saw sho and pronounced English sh, which is closer to щ than to ш. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Ш is traditionally transliterated as 'sh', and Щ as 'shch'.

Those traditional transliterations caused a lot of problems for learners of English and Russian, so they should be excluded from learning materials. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

We are preparing to go to Ukraine on Friday, and I decided to go through our two glases of coins from all our trips, in order to find the Ukrainian ones. It took us 45 minutes, but by then we had found not only about half a kilo of Ukrainian coins, we had found coins from 28 differents countries, including some which now use euros. (We do not go through those glasses very often...)
That is how I found out that my husband has been to Croatia, which I did not know. What puzzled me more was that we found coins from Canada, Indonesia, Syria and Mexico, and we have not been to any of those places. Either we have received them from someone who gave them as change, by mistake or just to get rid of it, or my husband has a side job as a bank robber, has spent all the bank notes on booze, horses and other women and there are just the coins left. In any event I can't wait to go to Ukraine. The last time I was there, I managed to speak just a little Russian, and I am hoping that I will be able to communicate a lot more this time. I have also decided to burn my ships as far as the Tadoku challenge goes. I had packed two big and heavy Italian books, and had planned to read them on Friday and Saturday, but I then took them out and put three Russian books and a little dictionary in my bag instead. Not that I actually think that there is even a remote possibility that I will get through two full Agatha Christie books and Twilight (Sumerki) in just a few days, when it takes me forever to get through just one page, but if I am able to push myself into just reading on,even if I do not understand as much as I would have liked to, it would be a disaster if I did not have enough reading material. And if there is anything I have learned through the last two challenges, the 6wc and the Tadoku challenge, it is that when you really focus, you can do extraordinary things. 3 persons have voted this message useful | ||||||

25th to 29th of March
A very quick update I have read lots of Italian the last few days, but curiously enough, my German actually felt a lot better after all the German I read, even though Italian is theoretically a stronger language. I guess it is the "theoretically"-part which counts... My suitcase is packed, and my Russian Agatha Christie book is in my handbag: Wish me luck with the Russian reading - this will be swim or drown! Anyway the last few days I have done the following: Italian: 5 hours German: 13 hours Russian: 5 hours 45. minutes (or actually more, but I forget to register it...) Spanish conversation: 15 minutes Total this year: Russian: 231 h 35 min German: 49 h 45 minutes Greek: 2h 10 min Spanish: 21 h 40 min English: 134 h 30 minutes French: 40 minutes Italian: 8h 30 minutes Icelandic:20 minutes Mandarin: 45 minutes Ukrainian: 30 minutes Arabic: 1 hour and 5 minutes Swedish/Danish 10 hours The taxi is picking me up in just a few hours, and I had better get som sleep - so have a good week!!
