Hello, this is to start my log, since I joined the team Sputnik for the TAC 2012 (Russian).
As for my background in Russian, I fell in love with it in high school, because I read an article in the encyclopedia, and basically the Russian alphabet seemed to me beautiful :). I think that is what language learning is about: you need to be in love with the language you study, regardless of its utility or proximity to your mother tongue. I have studied it during 10 years but in a very inconsistent manner. I calculate that I have studied Russian during an effective time of one year or one year and a half. I hope to have a more active interaction with other members of the sputnik team, in order to help them to learn Russian more easily, and receive feedback from them. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Welcome to the team, drsarvo! I think you're spot on about falling in love with a language, and don't worry about inconsistent study in Russian...I fall into the same category myself. Bye the way, here's a little update of my Russian adventure so far:
Due to holidays there has been an undesired stop but today we are back in business. I have concluded lession 34 of my little Russian manual, I learned a little poem by Valery Auchev: The Thank you City (Валерий Аушев- Город Спасибо, I think you'll find it amusing and very useful), reviewed the way of using the prepositions пере, при, под and the verbs of motion (which I learned can be definite or indefinite) and started chapter four of a little book entitled Рассказы о русской истории (Tales about Russian history). Also had a look on a youtube video: a Soviet 1975 TV news show entitled Время, it was about the 30th anniversary of the Soviet victory against Hitler's German Army. Search it as "Программа Время 09.05.1975". It also included sport and weather sections. Well, I hope you will find all this useful and amusing. 1 person has voted this message useful |
