	I really don't know how people keep languages straight. I guess it just takes practice. I find if I'm concentrating on only one language, I can mostly stick to it, but even then things sometimes pop out in the wrong language. (Very embarrassing.) But if I'm doing something in two languages at once, like reading something in English and talking to someone in Norwegian, it can be really hard. Or even harder -- talking to two people at once in different languages. I wonder if that's the way to go though. Maybe creating situations like that and making it extra hard to keep the languages separated will make it easier to keep them separate in normal situations. 1 person has voted this message useful

	I feel lots of interference when I try to speak Spanish. I mean, I speak mainly Portunhol, but since I started learning Italian, every Spanish word goes out of my mouth with a thick Italian accent, or with Italian constructions. 1 person has voted this message useful

	At the beginning of each Spanish class we write the answers to the previous day's homework on the board, and i keep throwing in Italian words. We've been reviewing numbers (seems basic, but it's been a whole year since some of my classmates last had Spanish class) and i just cannot get nove and nueve straight in my head. I second guess myself every time. Talking to two different people at the same time in different languages is definitely hard! Mostly i find that my stronger language is fine (ex. if i'm communicating in french and Spanish simultaneously, french comes out right) but it influences the weaker language. For example if i don't know a word in Spanish, my brain supplies it automatically in french and i'll use it without even noticing it's wrong. I guess just practice practice practice and i'll get it eventually! Anyways, here are four more challenges that i just got corrected on lang-8: 4. Give a five-sentence long description of the town or city you live in. La mia città era la capitale della mia provincia prima di quella attuale. È piccola, ma è circondata da altre città più grandi. È vicino a un fiume che conduce al mare. Ci sono molti bei parchi, compreso uno di fianco del fiume. Siccome la città è piccola, possiamo camminare quasi dovunque. Mi piace molto la mia città. 5. Which languages do you speak? How well do you speak them? Where did you learn them? L'inglese è la mia lingua madre. La parlavo da bambina. Nel sesto anno, ho cominciato a imparare il francese. Lo parlo bene perché ho fatto un scambio studentesco e sono andata nel Quebec, ma non ho un buon accento. Ho cominciato a imparare lo spagnolo due anni fa a scuola. Lo spagnolo mi piace molto. Studio anche l'italiano dalla fine di dicembre. Non so bene l'italiano, ma studio ogni giorno per migliorare. 7. Where do you go on holiday? Write 5 sentences about your favourite destination. In estate tutta la mia famiglia va a Galiano, dove abbiamo una capanna. Mi piace stare in vacanza perché la famiglia è riunita. La capanna è su una bell'isola. Ogni giorno, andiamo in una spiaggia differente. Ci divertiamo molto quando nuotiamo e andiamo in canoa. 8. Write four sentences about a holiday you enjoyed. Where did you go? What did you do? Who did you meet? What was the weather like? L'estate scorsa, sono andata in Messico con mia nonna, mia zia, e mio zio. Abbiamo fatto molte cose. Siamo andati in spiaggia, al ristorante, al museo e al mercato. Il tempo era bello e il cibo era fantastico! Yesterday was the first day since the start of the 6WC that i didn't do a lesson out of my book. I just couldn't concentrate on the grammar i was supposed to learn, so i ended up writing those challenges instead. Much more fun! And i'm gaining confidence. Even if i have to look up lots of vocabulary, i generally have good sentence structure and grammar. Today i'm going to write all the challenges that i have completed by hand and then practice reading them in front of a mirror. 	I've been studying lots over the weekend. I've learned that you don't have to always work hard at memorizing vocabulary or practicing grammar concepts, watching movies and listening to music teaches you just as much! I've also learned that it's more fun learning with a friend. I've started designing lessons for a friend of mine who is too busy to organize it herself. This is challenge 41 from the beginner list. I wrote a diary entry each day for 5 days. It was an incredibly useful learning experience, and i think i will continue with it. 8 febbraio - Oggi ho studiato le lingue per tutta la giornata perché non dovevo andare a scuola. Ho fatto i miei compiti di francese e di spagnolo, e una lezione del mio libro di Italiano. Dopo cena, ho guardato un film Italiano che si chiama La Tigre e la Neve. Era bello. 9 febbraio - Stamani sono andata alla mia chiesa a fare colazione. C'era una colazione speciale per San Valentino. Gli uomini hanno servito le donne! In seguito, sono andata a un ristorante messicano per chiedere di lavorare là. Infine, ho studiato Italiano tutto il pomeriggio e la sera. 10 febbraio - Oggi è stato un bel giorno. Sono andata in chiesa e ho aiutato con la scuola domenicale. Poi, ho studiato Italiano. Per cena, abbiamo mangiato il cibo greco. È il mio cibo preferito. Infine ho guardato La Vita è Bella con i miei genitori. È un film bellissimo e molto triste. 11 febbraio - Il mio giorno è cominciato con una colazione deliziosa - un frullato di frutta e una focaccina. Poi, ho parlato con mia madre delle università. Manca solo un anno alla fine della scuola superiore. Durante il pomeriggio ho studiato Italiano. Dopo cena ho fatto i miei compiti di inglese. Adesso, ascolterò la musica. 12 febbraio - Oggi sono andata a scuola. Ho avuto lezioni di francese, spagnolo, inglese, nutrizione, e filosofia. È un semestre molto facile! Dopo scuola, ho pulito la mia camera. Poi, ho fatto la baby-sitter. La bambina è davvero adorabile! Adesso farò i miei compiti e studierò Italiano. I also signed up for the Super Challenge. The 20 months are already half way gone, so i decided on a half challenge. I've already watched two movies, as i stated in the diary entries above. I'm watching another one tonight. 	Last week wasn't a very good week for studying. I had a lot of commitments including my first all-day young drivers classroom session, which is going to monopolize my next few sundays. Luckily this week has been a little bit better. I've finished my lesson book (at least 6 weeks before i had thought i would) so now i'm going over everything and trying to get really comfortable with the material. I feel like i know so much, i just have to learn how to apply it all! This evening i think i'm going to script out some conversation about different subjects, and work on some challenges from the team list. I haven't done any in a while. EDIT: Here are two challenges i finished later that day but forgot to post: 38. Write five sentences about what your friend or a relative does on their day off or on the weekend. Quando mia sorella minore non va a scuola, è felice. Per prima cosa, si sveglia alle nove e fa colazione. Poi, legge un libro o suona la sua chitarra. Durante il pomeriggio esce con gli amici. [ i slightly altered the challenge and instead wrote about a friend's party gone wrong] La mia amica ha fatto una festa mentre i suoi genitori erano via. Dopo la festa, la porta del bagno era rotta e il gabinetto non funzionava più. Fortunatamente i miei amici sono riusciti a riparare tutti i danni prima del rientro dei suoi genitori. Però sua madre ha capito che c'era stata una festa perché mancavano sapone e carta igienica nel bagno! Più tardi, i genitori hanno scoperto che mancavano anche delle birre dal frigorifero. 	You're learning to drive? It took me about six years from my first driving lesson until I finally got around to getting a license. My first driving instructor spent half the time telling me about all the near accidents he'd been in with student drivers. That didn't help my confidence much. 	Yeah, that doesn't seem like it would be very encouraging! I'm excited to learn how, but it's scary too of course. I've only been driving once and it was just in a parking lot. I love road trips though so i can't wait to get my full license. 1 person has voted this message useful

	So... today was supposed to be a long day of studying to jump ahead in the 6WC, but other things got in the way. However, i found some Italian textbooks through craigslist and picked them up today. They look pretty good, although the workbook has a lot more writing in it than was described in the ad... oh well. Also, i went to the library and they're going to ship in some Italian books from a neighbouring municipal library for me! That will get me started on the reading portion of the Super challenge. 1 person has voted this message useful
