I just finished the Papiamentu book by Lincom Europa. It is a very technical book, and I
only used it due to the shortage of resources for Papiamentu. Some sections covered too much detail which is unnecessary for people who speak one of the base languages for this creole, in my case Portuguese. This is specially true for the phonology, but also for some morphology sections. - Read the story "E circo a bin", an interesting one - As promised, I started listening to (when possible) and reading Izaline Calister's lyrics alongside with translations. I started from oldest to newest, from bottom to top, with Mazurka erótika - Added words to Anki up to page 58 I must admit I browsed through some online newspapers and I didn't feel like reading them. Reading news is so boring! I read this short one from Aruba: Accidente frontal na Santa Cruz I didn't get the word "Akinan", maybe it's just a pointing word, a demonstrative. Aki means here and nan usually stands for the plural. Interesting sentence from the story "E circo a bin": "E ta trata na hala nan atencion ariba e taalles" He tried to attract (spanish 'halar') their attention to the language lesson. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Conversei hoje com uma garota de Aruba no Livemocha. Comecei a conversa com "Kon ta bai?" e ela começou a rir muito, e me respondeu em papiamento. Disse que estava bem, e que esse era todo o papiamento que eu sabia e continuamos em inglês hahahaha mas foi interessante.

- I read a page on Expressions from the same page where I get the stories from. Some idioms are close to Portuguese, others are more complicated. i'm a bit ried and I didn't bother translating all unknown words, put it is a page I definitely should go back to later.
