Off the top of my head, I can't think of a situation in which I would say "luego de que", or even "luego que". Actually, I would dub it as translating to "after that/later", i.e. including a reference to other stuff in itself (but take this with a grain of salt). OTOH "después", "después de", "después que" and "después de que" are all right in different contexts.
That reminds me of a discussion we had last year: Ver or mirar television or una pelicula. Towards the end I added a comment on more verb pairs that are very close yet different in meaning and are thus often mixed up --like those you mention--. Veo a menudo "luego que" escrito en libros y foros de América Latina. La RAE dice:
Entonces, ¿cuál sería la diferencia entre "después que" y "después de que"? Yo siempre creía que significaban lo mismo. Según el DPD, parece que al principio se usó la forma "después que" pero que poco a poco "después de que" se fue incorporando al uso cotidiano:
Eso es interesante porque siempre había pensado que la forma correcta era "después de que" pero que con el tiempo se perdió el "de". Parece que lo tenía al revés ;) Otra cosa que me confundía mucho era el uso de "llevar" y "traer". No sé por qué me causaba tantos problemas, pero era algo que siempre me tenían que corregir. The short story idea might work better next month when we have longer to do it (ie. more than two weeks).
Another quick challenge idea stolen from one of those language games could be to take a short English article and translate it into your target language. Then you send your translation (via PM) to person #2, who translates it into another language they're studying, who sends it to #3, and so on. Then we can share what the final text ended up being and compare it to the original English article. 1 person has voted this message useful |
