I don't know whether it's a good or a bad thing, but I couldn't stay away from Lernu, and just for fun I tried the level A exam. I didn't make it, but it was a good exercise, and I got more aware of my weak points. I'll try it again when I feel that I have a better command of grammar.

During the last days I've had a look at Babili esperante, which is very basic.

Next steps will probably be Verbumado and Jen nia IJK, and studying grammar.

Time for a long-awaited update. I have done anything anywhere close to Esperanto since the end of June 2007. As a member of Lernu, I got an email a couple of months ago saying that the University of Stockholm was going to start a net-based course in January 2010. I decided to take the course, and now I'm an aspiring esperantist (again).

The third week has just started and so far, I have:
skimmed the grammar section
La puzlo esperanto 1-20
Bildoj kaj demandoj 1-25
read "Sistema kurso de esperanto" from back to back (the 1933 book I mentioned in the beginning of this log)
episode 1 and 2 of of "Mazi en Gondolando" on Youtube

I have also added just about everything into Anki, words and sentences.

Another week has gone.

La puzlo esperanto 21-25
Bildoj kaj demando 26-30
Mi estas komencanto 1-4
Ek! 1-4 (a book teaching Esperanto more or less as Pimsleur - the lessons introduce new words and grammar topics, and drill those with questions and responses (the correct answers are below a line which you're supposed to cover with a piece of paper)

I've also added most of the content into Anki (766 cards in total).

Yesterday (Saturday), we had our first group conversation on Skype. There might have been another earlier this week, but Saturday suited me better. I think we were about six-seven participants (plus the teacher). There were some technical problems, probably due to the number of people as well as the microphone being turned on by default in Skype. It worked OK as long as you only turned it on when you spoke.

I'd rate my comprehension of spoken Esperanto pretty good (at this very basic level). Our teacher used some expressions I had never heard before, but could guess the meaning of (I call that "language intuition"), and when anyone of us didn't understand, he adapted to our level.

Due to the technical issues, we might do text chat instead for the rest of the course (a couple of weeks).

We had another group conversation on Skype two days ago. Still technical problems: noise, disappearing words... people unfamiliar with Skype, audio feedback problems (even just one person having the microphone turned on resulted in a lot of squealing noise).

I wonder if anybody here has participated in group discussions (on Skype), and if so, how many participants there were (we probably were about ten this time, and what possible technical problems you had.

1954 Anki cards.

No conversation last week (we did written exercises instead). For the rest of this week/weekend I'll focus the last Ana Pana lessons. Next week, it's time for "Lingva ekzameno, nivelo A" (which is available at the Lernu site) and a written assignment.
