So, if you'd like to spend a lot of money and get nowhere, choose Pimsleur? Isn't that what you're saying, Athena?
In fact, what I think is a waste of time is "listening" to pauses and prompts from an English speaker, but perhaps that's just me. ;)

Not just money - time. The 90 hours required to complete Pimsleur, just once, could be far more effectively applied to more efficient modes of study.

I was actually wondering, what have people done after they have finished the Assimil course? I am not really interested in Pimsleur(they don't have my target languages anyways) and I feel like after Assimil and Remembering the Kanji I will be on a somewhat intermediate/high-beginner level of Japanese and need to start learning to match the pronunciation with the characters, as well as working on the the various writing systems. I am also wondering the same thing for Portuguese after I finish the FSI course if anyone wants to comment on that.

Well some people go through Assimil again. You also have some that use native materials after they finish it such as newspapers, and television to enhance their vocab.

The first step is to finish the last ~50 lessons, it's easy to forget that one. It feels great to have gone through the final lesson passively, but one should still do them actively, review them, translating back et.c.
For some languages there are "Using X" and even "Business X". Of course, with a good foundation (regardless of how that is achieved) one should start using real material.

How are those Business courses? Are they meant as a followup to Using X, or are they parallel courses with business centered vocabulary and scenerios that would be suitable as followup to a With Ease course?
