Lately my Anki reviews have been taking about 10-14 minutes most days. However, today it took 33 minutes because I had 3 days worth to do (was too busy on Friday and too lazy yesterday).

español (6/10/2013 - 12/10/2013):

I finally decided to restart Spanish this week (and officially started on Thursday). I'm
making a pass back through Pimsleur again as a refresher then will probably dig back into
Assimil afterward (or maybe during).

In fact, I'm actually still reviewing my Spanish deck which is built from sentences and
phrases from the various Assimil lessons, though a good chunk of the deck is still
suspended (as I hadn't yet reached those lessons again on my previous revival of
Spanish study). On that note, I need to resume entering lessons from Assimil into Anki
so I can maintain that buffer of suspended lessons. The reason I'm set on keeping that
buffer is that part of the reason I stopped going through Anki the first time was having to
transcribe sentences for each lesson as I went. By transcribing ahead I not only get an
advance preview of the material, I also unlink the transcribing work from the lessons. As
such, doing a lesson is as simple as going through the lesson as intended, then
removing the suspended flag from any cards with that lesson number in the tags field.
I've been tempted to just skip Anki altogether for Spanish instead, which would also
remove this issue, but Anki has proven to be very useful, especially in the earlier stages
of studying a language.

One thing that may be part of the reason for finally restarting was discovering that one of
the webcomics I check daily (XKCD) has an unofficial Spanish version at
http://es.xkcd.com.

Now, I just need to start consuming some Spanish media so I don't drop it so quickly this
time.

español (13/10/2013 - 19/10/2013):

Pimsleur:
- Lecciónes 3-5
(NOTE: This would have said Lecciónes 3-12 based on my original plan, which is 2
lessons per weekday during my commutes, but getting sick
earlier in the week torpedoed that plan.)

Assimil Transcription:
- Lección 59 (28 cards)
- Lección 60 (26 cards)

Bilingual reading:
- XKCD en español (visited daily, but only read when it updates)
- Foxtrot en español (read daily)(parallels with Foxtrot Classics during the week and with
new Foxtrot strips on Sundays)
- Dilbert en español (read daily)
- Calvin and Hobbes en español (read daily)
(NOTE: I'm listing these as bilingual reading as I also read the English version of each
comic.)

---

Some of my progress this week was inhibited by getting sick partway through the week.
This was particularly true of Pimsleur Spanish which is done on my commutes (and
requires speaking which is a bit of a problem with a sore throat and chest congestion as
symptoms). I did still read a bit in Spanish though and also hit 750 total Hanja cards
this week.

As noted above, my plan for Pimsleur Spanish (since it is really more of a
review/refresher than new material) is to do one lesson per commute, resulting in 10
lessons per week. This should allow me to get through Pimsleur fairly quickly (about 9
weeks at full speed for the 90 lessons), though I may slow down a bit as the lessons
progress (since I may remember less of the content from the later lessons. I'm also
tempted to buy Pimsleur Spanish IV (the 30-lesson set, not the old Spanish Plus 10-
lesson set) since that wasn't available last time I went through this course.

I've increased the number of Hanja I add to my SRS each week, however, this has also
increased my failure rates a good bit as I tend to fail new Hanja cards more often than
new Korean cards anyway.

español (20/10/2013 - 26/10/2013):

Pimsleur:
- Lecciónes 6-12
(I backed down to 1 per day partway through the week, and will probably continue at that
rate.)

I ordered "Michel Thomas Total Spanish" this week (which is the repackage of his
Foundation course), so I'll have to figure out how to work that into my schedule. I'm not
sure whether to parallel it with my Pimsleur review pass or start it afterward.

Michel Thomas Total Spanish arrived on Friday. I'm not sure yet when I'll go through the
lessons though. Since each lesson is longer than Pimsleur (1 hr vs. 30 min), I'd have to
split them to do them on my commute since a Pimsleur lesson doesn't finish until I'm
already within a few miles of work.
