I added 16 Japanese celebrities (all AKB48/SKE48/SDN48 members, since that's been
the focus of all my media exposure thus far) to my Twitter feed last night, so I'm counting
Twitter visits for Japanese reading practice now as well. Interestingly, I also noticed that a
few of the members (or former members as several have already "graduated" from their
respective groups now) are also followed by some of the Korean celebs I follow. For
example, Nicole (formerly of Kara; wow it feels weird writing that) follows Maeda Atsuko and
two Secret members (Hyoseong and Jieun) both follow Miyazaki Miho. I also found it
interesting that Oshima Mai has her profile listed in Japanese, English, and Korean.

Anyone knows where Goldenfibre went to? Did he reach nirvana of korean proficiency and
disappear from this world? His site has been down since 2012. He had some good posts
there...

I'm not sure either. I used to visit GoldFibre's site very regularly, but a couple years ago
when I got so busy with work, I had to drop all the blogs I read at the time and I just never
happened to start reading that one again (in fact, I never started back reading most of them
afterward). :-/

I found an old video of his on my computer when he was being interviewed by his wife in
Korean after he started studying 3 years ago. I saved it just so I could check after 3
years if my level would be similar.

anyway Is saw that your occupation status changed to Chief Technology Officer.
Congratulations!

Yeah, I remember that video. I watched it when he posted it on his site back then.

한국어 (2014년 9월 14일 - 2014년 9월 20일):

Extensive Reading:
- 와라!편의점 (read daily)
- Twitter (a few visits each week)

Active Practice: Posts on HTLAL and Twitter

Comments:
Well I finished 와라!편의점 this week. I've been searching for a replacement web comic
for the past week or so and found some that I like but they all either have too few
episodes, have episodes that are too long, or both. Since most of them seem to be
released weekly, I may have to just pick several and read a different one each day. Even
then I may have to change what time of day I read them since many are longer and will
require more time to read them per episode. If anyone has any suggestions for a Korean
web comic with a large number of fairly short and interesting episodes, please feel free
to reply with suggestions.

GOAL STATUS: Week 39
Grammar 1 (Extract grammar from SRS): DONE (65 cards)
Grammar 2 (Complete Let's Speak Korean 2부): 28/130
Grammar 3 (Complete Talk To Me In Korean): DONE
Grammar 4 (Complete Survival Korean): Not Started
Grammar 5 (Complete SK: Basic Grammar): Not Started
Grammar 6 (Review Lonely Planet Phrasebook): Not Started
Grammar 7 (Review Using Korean): Not Started
Vocab 1 (SE read 24 songs): 15/24
Vocab 2 (INT read 1 TTMIK 이야기/month): 6/12
Production 1 (Memorize 1 song/month): 8/12
Production 2 (Write 2 posts/week): 27/52
Team Gumiho Challenges: 2/3

---

日本語 (2014年 9月 14日 - 2014年 9月 20日):

Current RTK Lite Status:
Lessons Done = 8 -> 14 (56)
Kanji Covered = 172 -> 323 (2042)
Active SRS Cards = 133 -> 230 (1116)
(The values before the arrow are last week's values. The values in parenthesis are the
totals for completing RTK1 / RTK Lite.)

Pimsleur: 1-10

Extensive Reading:
- Twitter (a few visits each week)

Comments:
I still remember a fair bit of the early Pimsleur Japanese from a couple years ago, so I
went through the first 10 lessons at an accelerated rate (2/day). For this next week I'm
backing down to 1/day and will try to continue that pace for at least the rest of Pimsleur
Level 1.

All 243 Kana cards are now active in my SRS and have been reviewed as new at least
once (including the 4 obsolete Kana).

Overall, I'm happy with my rate of learning with Kanji via RTK. I'm tempted to go
through them even faster, but I only really have time to study the book on weekends
and I'm afraid that going too fast will ramp up my reviews too quickly and also lead to
reduced recall. Still I've covered 323 characters already and am actively reviewing 230
of them whereas it took me a few years to reach the 831 cards I currently have in my
Hanja deck (and even with reviewing just the RTK Lite characters, there are a large
number that have been characters that were completely new to me, so these aren't just
reintroductions of known Hanja).

I was actually looking for his blog a few days ago, so I googled his nickname. Unfortunately I couldn't find the blog (now I know why), but google turned up his rather active lang-8 account. Looks like he's focusing on French and German nowadays. I read a couple of his Korean entries and from those would predict him to be at a high intermediate level, similar to the students I met at Sogang's level 5 language course. Of course some casually written diary entries might not accurately reflect his skills, especially if he hasn't focused on Korean much lately.

Before he closed down his blog, a lot of the posts were about him learning French using
the same study habits as he did with Korean.
