Which is why I thought it would be good to split most Romance learners between Team STARt and Team Iberia (I think the learners of Spanish/Portuguese tend to be more interested in the other language, and then there's some interest in Catalan, Galician, Papiamento).

Many people listed French but how many actually want to be on the team for it?

Cavesa, I've updated the opening posts in the team threads for *jäŋe/*ledús and Yürükler.

Feel free to update your master list as you see fit.

Once I get a better sense of who's genuinely set to study Ukrainian, I'll start a team thread for that language too. The poll's result for Ukrainian does seem encouraging.

P.S. Dúfam, že bude v 2014 aj československý tím. Uvidíme ako to dopadne.

Oh, in all this hurry I forgot to sign up myself :)
Register me as team STARt leader and let's say that I want to get close to A2/B1 (A1/A2, speaking realistically) border in German whereas any other intentions are still vague.
P.S. I'd like to join German team, but I think it's too early for me to do such a thing. I'm too slow and lazy to be in TL-team, hehe.

Via Diva and everyone who's anxious about the commitment, we've been discussing the possibility of a new status in the team, in addition to regular member and godparent/guardian angel.

If you are interested in a language but unsure about your plans, you can sign up as "curious"/observer/linguist/wanderluster, whatever fits you. This means that you will be reading and commenting other people's logs but without a pressure to study more yourself. This also means less pressure for developing your active skills if they're not a high priority for you.

You can sign up as observer from the beginning or you can change your status if you have no time for the language, instead of dropping the challenge altogether. If you get madly excited about the language, you can also upgrade your status to full member.

Cavesa, please put me on the list as well. Right now it seems like I'll be on teams *jäŋe/*ledús, Iberia and German. Observer in Dutch and Thor (Odin? Loki?)

Sign me up as observer in German team then.
And Team STARt still want to find its guardian angel :) Since our most important target is to maintain our first foreign language, maybe polyglot can do it if he/she has a desire to do so :) It would be a great reminder that first language can open the gates to the multilingual world or whatever else you think it does :D

I agree with Josquin and liammcg...it would be great to have a team again for people studying Celtic languages in 2014! This year we had 14 people studying in our motley crew: 10 people studying Irish, four (Scottish) Gaelic, three Breton, and two Welsh. Everyone's been really supportive, and having a presence for Celtic languages for the first time in the TAC challenge has I think made a difference. It's provided us with a fun meeting place in which to share our experiences and resources, and also helped raise awareness of these fascinating lesser-known languages. Perhaps we could simply call ourselves Team Celts in line with the names of other groups next year, what do you think?

I'll sign up for an observer for Cantonese and Japanese if teams are formed, although it isn't looking promising just
yet!
