Dear friends of Dutch,
Welcome to TAC 2014! We come from many countries and many different walks of life, but we are all united by our love for the Dutch language. This our home base, where we can trade tips, ask questions, and support one another.
What's a TAC?
The Total Annihilation Challenge (TAC) is simply an excuse to focus on a target language for one year. There are two main rules:
1) Keep a log to track your progress
2) Follow the logs of your teammates
I hope we can all update our logs on at least a biweekly basis. There are no set topics that you must write about; all discoveries, plans, exciting developments, and/or roadblocks are absolutely appropriate. It's your personal space to think out loud.
Let's also try to comment frequently on each others' logs. A year of language-learning growth is a long commitment! It is my hope that we can build a strong support network that will lift us all higher than what we could have achieved alone.
How to join
First, sign up in the Sign Up Thread for TAC 2014.
Then you can make a new TAC 2014 log and post the link here! I'll link names to logs in the "Members" section as fast as they come. If you do not want to create a new log, but simply wish to continue a log you've already started, that's fine too.
Let's talk about...
1) I hope that we can organize some fun monthly mini-challenges for 2014. Let's post our ideas here.
2) When is a good time for a Skype session in January? We can have a planned activity (such as reading aloud, if people are shy), or just chat. I would love to hear your thoughts on what you would find most helpful.

Say hi! The first team challenge is to introduce yourself on the team thread in Dutch. You can do this however you like. If you're just starting the language, feel free to write a few sentences about yourself and your goals. If you're more advanced or feeling bolder, why not post a longer introduction or an audio recording (?!)?
However you choose to break the ice, please post an English translation so that all of our team can understand. This challenge will be active until January 31.

February
February is the month of love! So, I thought it would be an appropriate time for us all to read some poetry. This month's challenge is to read one poem in Dutch and share it on the team thread. Gedichten.NL and 1001Gedichten.NL are good places to start. You can also check out a list of notable Dutch poets here.
Completed by: Suzie, NMW, Hekje, jeff_lindqvist
March
The song of spring is in the air! March's challenge is to share a favorite Dutch song with the team and translate as much of the lyrics as you can. Music is something that can be enjoyed by both beginners and advanced learners alike, so I hope this will be a fun challenge for everyone.

I've found the following useful:
bol.com - where you can buy all kinds of popular eBooks (as well as paper books, if
you're willing to pay international shipping)
shop.pottermore.com - where you can buy Dutch eBooks and download digital
audiobooks from the Harry Potter series

Yay!
lyricstraining is a great resource too.
As for goals, my first one is to participate in a two-week Tadoku. I'll also use Ilya Frank's method.

What a great goal! I'll be making a Goals section soon to organize these.
(I have to admit, I had to look up what exactly a Tadoku was - but then I realized I
actually follow the basic rules all the time. Love it.)
