@Peter Mollenburg: The main thing is that you stay motivated and have fun. If in order to
that you need to read shorter texts online, then do that. You are doing this for you, not
for me:-) I would still recommend longer texts though.

@Serpent: As far as I remember he recommended children's books and easy readers.
Personally I go for crime novels, or vampire literature :-) because I find the language a
lot easier than in most high quality literature.

I can well believe the research you refer to, which is why unlike the Tadoku, I not only
allow counting the same book several times over, I actively encourage it and do it myself.
I am now reading an Agatha Christie book for the third time, and I am amazed at how much
more vocabulary I understand now than last time I read it.

Basically, if in doubt, think of it this way:
    1 page = 2-3 paragraphs
1 paragraph = 5-8 short sentences OR 2-4 long sentences

Wow.

That's not what most of my books look like!

I always have the feeling that the people who read actual books are at a disadvantage
in the Tadoku challenge compared to the people who read online and play video games,
as they get awarded a lot of pages for not much reading. Re-reading a book is even
worse.

I understand how to read online but how do you read while playing a video game??? I don't play video games very often but when I do they generally involve a lot of shooting and not very much (any?) reading!

I'm not sure exactly how it works, but I see people getting a lot of pages counted
while playing games (they're usually in the top). I guess they're playing games with a
lot of text in them, like directions and dialogues, and that gets counted as reading.
I think they count how many screens of texts there are.

Thank you for the explanation :) There are some people with amazing scores in Tadoku - I wondered what their secret was!

Thanks Solfrid,

I will continue to read online, but i won't be counting it, as per your preference in this SC. Books are what
count is the rule of thumb here and seems to be the take home message. Understood.

CHALLENGE: Half

CURRENT LEVEL: A1

COMMENTS: My level is very low but I hope to see a big improvement in terms of grammar and vocabulary. Am
going to focus on listening and oral communication for now. Hopefully do the full challenge with more of a focus on
reading skills next time round.
