The same rule applies in English, and I've always wondered why this was so hard to
understand. You can drop the verb "to be" from a sentence, just don't CHANGE the
pronoun you would have used:

He is as big as I [am]. I am bigger than he [is].

Nobody ever says "he is as big as me is" or "he is as big as me am," so what's the
problem?

Similarly, I've never met an adult who would dream of saying "she sent a letter to I,"
so why would you think it's now correct to say "she letter a letter to my friend and
I"?

EDIT: </RANT>

Funnily enough, this has always been much easier for me to remember in Dutch than in English. I hope you will
forgive if I drop a "big as me" on this log, geoffw. :-)

There was another thing I wanted to just note real quick in my loggy log!

gebeuren was.

lijken bijna nooit.

Dutch

Again, haven't done much here.

Indonesian

Have been listening to a ton of music, especially Peterpan. I think I am in love with that band. So crazy though -
the lead singer, Ariel, was sentenced to three years in jail (!) because a sex tape of his got out and started
circulating.

More about that on the Wikipedias

French

Let it be known that I am going to start reviving my French!

Today I ordered Seymour Resnick's Essential French Grammar from Amazon. Super cheap, so yay. Thanks
to emk for the original recommendation - found it when trawling "how to revive my French" threads in the Advice
Forum.

I also have that Assimil French With Ease course and have done Assimil 1. It was super easy.

My goals for this language: recover a solid B2, which is what I had when I left off in 2009. I will need to
think about how exactly I'm going to do this, but I want this to be low stress. The project is purely for my own
amusement. I fully expect my passive skills to blow past my active skills in the beginning.

And, just to set a benchmark, here's an initial French-language post going off of what I remember. No
preparation:
