My parents had a professor by the name of Richard Wiener who, at graduation, insisted being introduced as Dick Wiener.

I know an elderly lady named Vera Boner. I believe her husband's name was Richard, but I don't know if he ever went by the short version...

Last week I visited a dentist's office and the receptionist called "Harry I. Ball", I could hardly contain myself!

It's not as funny, but once at my old job we had a travel agent call to book a flight for her client, whose name was Duncan Hines. (Which is/was a brand of cookies here, though I haven't seen those in years.*)
I don't think it was *that* odd, but when she was about to give the client's name for the booking she was like, "I'm not joking, this is how it appears on his passport." Maybe she had got people before who thought she was joking and gave her a hard time, because she was a bit touchy about it...probably more than the man whose name it was!
Maybe his mother craved chocolate chip cookies all the time when she was pregnant with him. ;)
*Edit: I haven't seen the packaged cookies in years, but I forgot about their mixes for cakes and brownies, which I think are still around. Useless factoid anyway. :P

Latin American urban legends mention Zoila Marina de Guerra (I am the Navy), Zoila Meza de Villar (I am the pool table) and the very disturbing Alma Marcela Silva de Gozo.
Now in real life, there's a journalist here in Guatemala named Aquiles Pinto Flores (here i paint flowers) and a very known environmentalist named Vida Amor de Paz (life love of peace?).
There's a "Hell" in Norway (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell,_Norway), a "Condom" in France (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Condom,_Gers) and a "Dildo" in Canada (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dildo,_Newfoundland_and_Labrad or).
