Jinx and other fans of the play "Leben des Galilei" by Bertold Brecht: I have googled a bit and found an instructive website written in not too complicated German with a summary of the play and further background information.

I was really impressed by Jose Saramago's "Blindness" which I've recently read (in Spanish the title is "Ensayo sobre Seguera"). His "Evangelie Segin Cristo" is also on my list (NB: Though I read Saramago in Spanish, he originally writes in Portuguese).

I am normally not a reader of literature, but I decided to read two theatre pieces which have some reference to natural sciences.
1. Die Physiker (1961) by Friedrich Dürrenmatt (< nuclear physics) 2. Leben des Galilei (1955) by Bertolt Brecht (< astronomy) Both books are very common "Schullektüren" in the German lessons at school in Germany. Fasulye 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

"Putin's Russia" by Anna Politikovskaya
I don't know if it qualifies as practice in my target languages, as I already know English, but it is interesting to see how Russian is translated into English, it still doesn't sound English, I do however like the language of this book. "Pygme" by Chuck Palahniuk The newest Palahniuk book is written gramatically incorrect English, as told by an Asian spy, strange to read at first since the language makes no sense at first, but it's a brilliant and hilarious book. I'm currently reading "Moonwalking with Einstein" by Joshua Foer. It's about a regular Joe who became a master
memory champion with only about a year worth of training. Interesting story so far -- not sure if there is anything that can be readily applied towards language learning. -Slacker 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I used to read several books at once in the past. Now I read one book ten and more times (I am a book translator), and (shame!) don't read much of anything else.
