German Monthly Report
Activities done * "The Big Bang Theory", German audio with German subtitles, all first season. * "Game of Thrones", all first season, German audio with German subtitles, and the three initial episodes from second season, German audio only. * "Ostseefluch" by Eva Almstädt, at least four pages almost everyday. * "Lernen" by Manfred Spitzer, very interesting book. I'm reading this book mostly because of its contents, German learning comes second. * Flashcards in my Langenscheidt German-Portuguese iPhone app. Just to intensively train some important not yet memorized words. * Every day, many times a day, I read something on Wikipedia (auf Deutsch, natürlich) and some chosen news from my RSS feeds, mostly from "Die Zeit". * Studied some writing strategies. * German conversation group is over, unfortunately. Progress Reading and listening are getting more and more fluid. Writing is getting less painful. I've broken most of the chains that hindered me from speaking, although my accent is still not very good and I keep making some basic mistakes. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Was ist wichtiger, Teamfähigkeit oder Fachkenntnisse? Natürlich spricht man hier über die Begabungen, die für eine Unternehmen wesentlicher ist, wenn man neue Mitarbeiter anwerben will. Heutzutage haben wir immer neue Technik, und es ist nicht leicht, dass jeder mit diesen neuen Technologien arbeiten können. Es gibt auch Fächer, die sehr schwer sind, und man muss darüber zu viel lernen. Anderseits gibt es Sachen, die man lernen kann, aber auch die Sachen, die von der Personalität und dem Natur-Talent abhängig sind. Man kann etwas von Teamfähigkeit lernen, aber das ist nicht so einfach z.B. für schüchtern Leute. Aus diesem Grund können wir nicht so klar sagen, was nötiger ist. Es gibt kein Zweifel daran, dass die Entscheidung von bestimmter Bedingung des Unternehmens abhängig wird. I've already registered for the Assimil Experiment and this log will be the place to insert all my data for this experiment.
My chosen language is Catalan, which is supposed to be very easy for someone who knows other romance languages. My main goal in this case is to become a B2 at passive skills. Anyway, as already said, my German studies will be focused on the use of German, which doesn't mean that I'll avoid grammars and eventual grammar exercises. I'll also study Italian grammar and will report my progress (if any) here. I'll study through three books: "Grammatica avanzata della lingua Italiana" by S. Nocchi and R. Tartaglione, "I verbi Italiani" by S. Bailini and S. Consonno, and "Canta che ti passa" by C. Naddeo and G. Trama. I'll also start writing in Lang-8 in Italian (as planned, but not carried out, in the beginning of this log). 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

More on etymology. Schließen comes from the Indoeuropean root klēu-/klāu-, which is also the root for Latin words like clausura and clavis, with many derivations in Portuguese (z.B. chave and clausurar) and English (z.B. close and clause).
