After listening to what seems like a countless number of songs, I've decided on my first song to learn - one of 12 I've committed to learning throughout the year. It's "გაიღვიძა ბუნებამ" (Gaigviza Bunebam) by Mgzavrebi.

I chose this song for a couple reasons. Number one, it had to be singable with a memorable melody. I'm just not going to learn something that's not floating around in my head, and a memorable melody will easily stick. Second, I could find the lyrics online, written in Georgian, which is giving me some more reading practice.

The Georgian music site I'd posted about earlier lets me download individual songs, so I can stick it on my mp3 player and listen to it offline.

In briefly looking at what Google Translate gives me, it looks like the song is mostly in the present tense, except for part of the refrain, so I consider that a plus for as early on as I am with the language.

Anyway, here are the full lyrics for the song, which I found here:

hrhenry,
გამარჯობა!

Your plan looks great, good luck!
I'd like to recommend songs by 33a.
I think their music is great and lyrics are quite simple.

Thanks for the recommendation! They've got several songs listed on the site I mentioned, and their music does indeed seem like something I can use.

And now we're getting into it.

I've finished Lesson Three. The grammar is now starting to get a little bit more involved, although I'm trying not to over-think it.

Lesson Three covered present tense, all persons. It also covered dative and accusative cases. I thought I'd have more trouble with the cases, but it's actually pretty straightforward.

Postpositions were also covered and were easy enough, thanks to my Turkish.

The tail question "არა" and negative particle also function exactly as it does in Turkish, so that was another bonus!

I'm now starting with Lesson Four - თონის პური (I love fresh, oven-baked bread)!

I like the song გაიღვიძა ბუნებამ. I have never heard Georgian sung and it sounds nice.

You know, when I was planning out my goals for Georgian, I was worried that I would have a hard time finding pop music that would interest me. After spending a fair amount of time on the above-mentioned music site, I'm becoming aware of just how much good music there is in Georgian.

And I haven't even gotten to the ever-mesmerizing polyphonic Georgian folk music!

I love your goals! I want to make a list like that now. I'd love to have specific things
to accomplish, I'm just not usually that organized! :)

I'm glad you are into learning from music like I am, because I can come here to find some
songs! I think I'm gonna steal your idea of learning one each month. ;)

And also the skype sessions. In my last language, I made the mistake of not speaking
enough, and now that's my biggest problem. I will not make the same mistake for Georgian.

Anyway, I look forward to following your log!

So, here you are! One more log for me to follow. That's quite motivating!

The Passengers are great, that song specially.
I'm glad to see a native like Murdoc also shares my appreciation for 33ა. I do like their music.

zecchino, are you having skype sessions on Georgian already?
