ME TOO. I find it strange even talking about Breton in English, but writing on this forum is making it feel a bit more natural. I like the idea of making Breton a little more accessible to people that don't speak French/might not have considered Breton before. Language updates Still chugging along with Assimil for Breton and Pimsleur/a little reading for German. This week is super charged with schoolwork/studying, however, so I won't be doing much beyond. Probably I won't be able to get in a proper update until the 26th. Luckily, my twelve or so hours of travel time will be perfect for some intense studying. Or sleeping. Maybe I'll get lucky and be seated next to a talkative German or Breton speaker. :) 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

All of a sudden, my youtube suggestions are almost entirely Breton-related, which is how I found this song:

The bemdez from today (Tud e-leizh zo er straedoù. = Everyone is in the streets.) is incredibly appropriate right now. Tourists, tourists, everywhere! Mostly French, but a few German speakers as well that I've eavesdropped on. In about 48 hours I'll be able to get back into my usual language routine. Can't wait. At the moment, relistening to lectures has replaced listening to Assimil/Pimsleur/Harry Potter and so on. The problem with Breton is that so much of its material is in French, that you are
seriously a whole lot better off knowing it, especially because of the tons of loanwords. The reason I occasionally write in English is indeed to make it accessible for speakers of other languages (that also happen to know English). My rule in the log however is to write about the things I do in the language I did them in, unless I can't write it well enough yet (then I use the closest thing available, usually that's the language I study through). I made it through exams and traveling and all that good stuff. Now I'm at my parents' house going through my
language books trying to figure out what to take back with me. I haven't done as much as I ought with Breton. I'm just about finished with 24 Stunden aus dem Leben einer Frau and have started on the texts I need read in the next couple weeks. I need to find a way to practice speaking German soon. Also dann.... Endlich bin ich nach Frankreich (und HTLAL) zurückgekommen! Während der Ferien habe ich viel
geschlafen, viel gelesen und zu viel Fernsehen geguckt. Ich habe vor dem nächstem Semester noch ein Test, so ich konzentriere mich. Für dem Test muss ich zwei Texten auf Deutsch lesen. Es geht nicht so schnell. Es gibt viel viel viel Wörter die ich lernen muss. Wenn ich zurückgekommen bin, ich nahm einen Flug von Lufthansa. Ich habe "Stromberg" geschaut, aber ich war sehr müde und ich schlief ein. Am Flughafen, habe ich auf Deutsch Fragen gefragt und ich könnte die Antworten zu verstehen! Heute bin ich nach Basel gegangen und ich habe auf Deutsch gesprochen. Es war ein bisschen schwieriger... In Basel spricht man Baslerdüütsch, aber normalerweise nicht mit den Touristen. Ich habe nicht genug auf Deutsch gesprochen/geschrieben. Breton has briefly fallen off the map, but will resume next week. I'm still here! good to see you back! It seems we both had a rough start into this year's TAC, because I haven't really had time for studying as well. I'm looking forward to reading about your progress in Breton. Your German text was good. I have corrected it as usual. Good luck with your test!

@BAnna, I know! I'm jealous of myself! I think about how much I wished for an opportunity like this when I was growing up and then usually feel bad that I don't take more advantage of being where I am. Most of my German books were actually bought in the US at Half-Price Books. That store is dangerous for me. :) For you, I will make a greater effort of speaking all the German I can. Brezhoneg Penaos eo bet ar brezhoneg? Hmmm well, I've only just managed to restart my Breton studies. The next few days will be all about review before starting back up with Assimil. Deutsch Letztes Wochenende habe ich nach Amsterdam gereist. Es war wirklich super! aber sehr, sehr, sehr kalt -- zu kalt für mich. Es schneite. Es gab so viel Schnee, dass es viele Verspätungen bei der Bahn gab. Ich habe einen Zug bei Nacht genommen. Ich sollte um 7 Uhr bei mir ankommen, aber ich bin um 13 Uhr bei mir angekommen! Im Zug habe ich viel mit einem Deutsche Bahn Arbeiter auf Deutsch geredet. Er sagte dass ich mit französischem Akzent spreche. Jetzt habe ich keine Angst auf Deutsch zu reden. Während meiner Prüfung, habe ich dreißig Minuten geäußert. Es hat ziemlich gut passiert! Jetzt konzentriere ich mich auf Grammatik. I'm at a point now where I feel like I speak fluent bad German. I can hold my own in a conversation and say most everything I want to say, but my grammar has been sorely neglected. It reminds of the kid I babysit/teach English, he can play-act with me in English, but his vocabulary is pretty elementary and flawless statements are few and far between. Other languages I really want to learn Dutch now. I enjoyed being surrounded by it and picking up as much as I could in a weekend, but I'm going to try and hold off until I have a better grasp of German. I'll be picking back up Chinese this semester (I studied it a few semesters in high school and university) as I couldn't get into any German classes (I don't have an official level and it was too much of a hassle and needed to get in my course registration on time). I watched debates at the Council of Europe last week and got a major kick out of watching the interpreters and switching the radio audio between all the languages. So great.
