Welcome to the thread for TAC 2012's Russian team!
We are now a really big group, and we are sorry that we cannot accept any more members. But you are most welcome to visit our threads! This thread will serve as a place for members to discuss any practicalities, and for the members to share their goals, their achievements, their frustrations and all their good ideas. Thanks for starting up a thread for the team, Solfrid, and a big hearty welcome to all my team comrades (including Medialis who I'm keeping my fingers crossed will be joining us very shortly)! Things are already starting to look very promising for next year's TAC, and I have a strong feeling we're all going to make amazing progress in 2012. :)
With regards to my own plans, I'll be keeping the engines ticking over with Russian movies during the next couple of months, but hope to really kick things into action in February when exams and other pressing commitments are safely out of the way. My current goals for 2012 are to reach an advanced level in Russian (I'm hoping for C1 this time), and a good intermediate level (B2 would be more than welcome) in Irish reading and listening skills. Beyond that, I'm playing it by ear for the latter half of the year. I'd also like to take this opportunity to ask for suggestions for our team name and maybe even a fitting yet resplendent motto (like I've noticed in some other teams). To get the ball rolling, I thought I'd throw in a couple of ideas for a name at least, as daft as they may sound... The first idea that jumped into my head was to exploit the Russian/German connection with "Team Alix" (in memory of the last Tsarina of Russia, who was born at the New Palace in Darmstadt as Princess Alix, and whose dad was also the Grand Duke of Hesse - lol, it's probably not hard to guess where I lived last year ;) ). Another possible idea, with our sights on cloudy peaks in 2012 and the forthcoming Olympics, would be to name the team after the highest mountain in Europe, which just so happens to be situated in the Russian Caucasus: "Team Elbrus". Well, that's just a couple of silly suggestions to get things going, and I'm sure you can come up with far better. So please feel free to jump in with anything you think would make a fun and suitable name or motivational mantra. The more suggestions, the merrier! Yes, thanks, Solfrid, for starting up the thread! I'm excited for the challenge--I think we have a great team going
and that we will do well as a result! The most important thing, of course, is actually progressing in our languages, while having fun doing so! I'm for either of Teango's suggestions, though I'm leaning towards Elbrus because it's an inactive volcano and I believe we can weave the mountain motif into some sort of motivational scheme. Russian will be my main focus next year and I'm eager to eventually lift it to another
level. I suppose B2 should be possible and realistic. French also demands some attention and I need to come up with a strategy to go active and start speaking and writing in it. And I would like to go from watching movies with French subtitles to watch them without. Unless I choose to travel to Italy next year Italian will be pure fun and a way to relax when I need a bit of change. Other than that I'm undecided but Latin is the most likely candidate. Solfrid mentioned Icelandic, and I'm tempted to join in ... might be a 6wc. Name and motto are difficult things, but I'm somewhat attracted by Эльбрус. No hurry to decide though. Hey everyone! I simply can't resist jumping onboard the Russian team, so count me in. :D
I should warn you beforehand that I have a nice little personality split that will throw me between full-speed Japanese and full-speed Russian when I least expect it. :) My plans are to do heavy progress in Japanese and Russian, and maybe maybe start a new lanugage (Mandarin, Portuguese and German are on my hit-list). And it would be nice to throw in some French LR too. Maybe this will be the year when I break out of my silent mode and finally start to speak Russian fluently. *dreaming* I'm really excited about this team. The countdown has started.. :) Edited by M.
