I like the way the Iberian accent on Assimil sounds, and it feels compatible with the Spanish I hear from northern South America, Central America, and most of Mexico. My theory (and it's only a theory) is that these places have a large indigenous population for whom Spanish is a second language, and so it's a bit cleaner and slower. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Just an update, I heard back from Natalie Froehly at Assimil, and she said the updated

Let's hope they fix the thing. With regard to Iberian accent vs "Latin American" accent, you might actually put yourself at an advantage with the Iberian accent, instead of trying to sound local. A friend of mine went to America, and his Spanish is good enough that he was regularly thought to be a native of Spain even though he is English. I would like a Swedish Assimil course in English, that would be amazing. Anyways, I will

For anyone in the states, Schoenhofs (dot com) is a great place to get Assimil courses. The books run about $20 and the complete courses with audio are about $50 USD. It might even be cheaper to buy there and have them ship it elsewhere. Be warned, though. If they are out of stock, it can take 6-8 weeks to show up, and they are awful about answering questions. 3 persons have voted this message useful | |||
