Grammar point: Connectors expressing opposition
Why: Of all the types of connectors these are probably my weakest and since I tend to hedge a lot when writing, I should know how to do so more elegantly (or correctly, even).
How many: 100 should be easy to do and I ought to be able to explain it.

Language: Irish
Grammar Point: No specific ones, but I want to make more progress in Gaeilge gan Stró. I looked ahead and they'll be working quite a bit on prepositional pronouns and specific expressions.
How many: I should get through about one unit a week, so to about 8 or 9. I ought to be able to come up with various sentences and be able to explain them.

I didn't officially do it, but I did an online class on Coursera that had both videos and reading materials, and at first the reading seemed incredibly difficult. But then I watched most of the videos, with Spanish subtitles, and when I could no longer put off the reading, it was much easier. I had got used to the specific lingo.

I love the idea of this challenge, but the most suitable material I have for it is HP, and I've already gone through much of it.


And I love the new challenge too, but it will take some time to choose the grammar items ;) Aiming for 10 sentences because I'll obviously do this in more than one language. Specially for Cristina I'll do some Finnish too ;), although I've studied its grammar in detail, to the point of going to the library and reading through research, looking for even more structures I didn't know.

Grammar point: Future exact
Why: I know how to form this tense but have never got my head around when or why I would ever want to use it.
Sentences: I'll aim for 100 but not sure whether I'll hit that; I'm reading translations of the 'Fifty Shades of Grey' series at the moment and it's not the most intellectual book in the world so unsure how many examples I will find!

Here's a sample of my French sentences. There's no single grammar point; what I'm
aiming for here is elegance. I can say all these things and be understood, but
it wouldn't be smooth. And if it ain't smooth, it ain't good French.

I'll do this month's mini-challenge. I'm not entirely sure what the rules are... do we translate them or look for examples?

My grammar point that I want to focus on is pronouns like le, me, te, etc. I think that they are called clitic pronouns. There are tons of examples in Divergente, which I am currently reading, and probably the follow-up books as well. I'm going to shoot for doing at least 25. Maybe 100... but at least 25.

For the July multi-format challenge I chose "Der Räuber Hotzenplotz" (children's book in German). I listened to an
audio play, watched the movie, read an excerpt (I did not have access to the entire book) and listened to a few
pages being read (youtube). There were some unfamiliar vocabulary words such as Unke (toad) and wutschnaubend
(snorting with rage), but the story was fairly easy to follow or read in all formats. Probably since this was a
children's book, I did not see a huge difference in understanding, though the film contained songs that the other
formats did not and speakers in both the play and film had interesting accents and unusual voices that were of
course more challenging to comprehend than just reading the text. I read the text excerpt after the other formats
and just zoomed through the few pages I had access to.

I don't know yet which grammar points to focus on for August, but will come up with something...
