I would like to be an observer to this team. I won't be learning German in "annihilation"
mode but in a slow progress this year. It should be nice to see your experiences.

Team Spaß January Challenge
Now that we are two weeks into 2014, logs have (mostly) been set up, goals decided on and study plans put together, I think it's time to introduce a Team Spaß team challenge.
For January, since it is still the middle of winter and I feel I need cheering up (apologies to any team members if you happen to be south of the equator) I have tried to go with something fun, light, accessible and meaningful to learners of all abilities.
The challenge for January is: Learn the lyrics to a song in German
If you are advanced and this challenge seems far too simple, you could try translating the lyrics yourself. If that's too simple, try to create a translation which fits with the metre and rhyming pattern of the original!
Once you have completed the challenge, post in the team log to tell us what you have memorised. Bonus points to anybody prepared to give a performance (for the record, I won't, there are enough disturbing videos on YouTube already).
Lyrics Training takes an interesting approach to studying with lyrics and has quite a few German songs available
Lyrics Translate can be a useful starting point to find song lyrics with translations (some admittedly better quality than others)
I think that memorising song lyrics can be a useful exercise for two reasons:
1) In order to memorise the lyrics properly, you have to pay attention to grammatical details such as the correct use of articles
2) Once you have memorised the lyrics, assuming you picked a song you actually like, carrying out a review is a lot more fun than drilling through a basic Anki deck
I think there is a lot of genuinely good German language music out there, and I'm looking forward to discovering more!

Momentan hoere ich gerne Kinderlieder zu. Ist das erlaubt? Meine sechszehnmonatige
Tochter lernt mit mir ubrigens auch Deutsch! Ich werde ein paar Lieder auswendig lernen
und übersetzen.
Meine Katzen rennen aus dem Zimmer, wenn ich anfange zu singen. Man will keine Aufnahme
von mir! Vertrau mir!
