I've just done the unthinkable.
Les feuilles mortes
Yes, I've sung in French, and I'm not even familiar with French phonology. The last class I took in French was when I was in Year 7, and even then just for one year.
I've only tried to mimick what other singers do with other songs, so sorry if I've butchered the French language in this rendition. :(
PS - I've changed the name of this thread. Yay!

Yes, I've listened to your new song. I'm sorry, but I don't understand your French. From the musical point of view I would say that you sing the song too slowly. It sounds a bit monotonous to me.

Not terrible for a non-French speaker but you certainly picked a tough language to attempt. There are so many subtleties to the pronunciation--made even more difficult when sung. Here are the words to the song with English translation. This song has a verse which is beautiful in French and hideous in English translation:
Les feuilles mortes se ramassent à la pelle
The dead leaves collected with the shovel

Thanks, JW, I have now listened to the original song for the very first time. When Ives Montand sings it, I understand the text. In my opinion it has a very difficult melody to sing. Quite a challenge to choose such a song for You Tube.

Thanks for the feedback Fasulye and JW.
Lessons of today:
1. Don't sing in a language you can't speak
2. especially not after 5 shots of soju at quarter past midnight...
Hangover... *hic*

Yes, many Japanese people "underpronounce" regular consonants and double consonants. And this really deters communication when Japanese people speak Korean. |

Ah well that's no good. We might not be able to meet up!
Japanese would explain my own under-pronunciation I suppose. All the Americans I've heard speaking Korean OVER pronounce the consonants. And when I speak Japanese I sometimes have a Korean intonation. lol
And only 5 shots of soju? MT is going to put you down for sure! Good luck and congrats on getting accepted into SU, if that's what your avatar is implying.
