The well-known Arabic scholar, Erpenius, (Thomas Van Erpen,) was also acquainted with several other Oriental lan-guages, Hebrew, Chaldee, Persian, Turkish, and Ethiopic. His countryman and successor in the chair of Oriental lan-guages Leyden, James Golius, was hardly less distinguished.
