A few questions, if that's ok.

I post them here instead of my log, just because our team has been very quiet.

Kaç lira? Does that generally mean “how much money”, or does it apply only for the Turkish lira?

Nerde/nerede: what exactly is the difference in use and meaning (if any)? Maybe it is mentioned in FSI and I missed it?

Hangi otel pahalı?
Otel pahalı mı?
The reason we don’t use – mı in the first sentence is what exactly? The fact that hangi is a question word? (I’m guessing here).

I am still at the first units of FSI, but I notice that things start to go a bit faster as I gain some experience with the course. The drills are extremely helpful to me, both because they help me memorize vocabulary and because structure becomes automatic. Of course, the details of the structure are presented very well, so I don't feel like a parrot repeating mysterious words and phrases. On the contrary I get an idea of how things work from the beginning, so I believe that the bigger picture will reveal itself slowly in a natural and non stressful way.

I use other books as well of course, but in a complementary way.

Kaç lira ? applies for Turkish lira only.. For other currencies we shall say "Kaç
dolar? Kaç euro?" euro is pronounced "yuro" here, similar to English way.

If we don't want to mention the currency, we shall say "Kaç para?" or "Ne kadar?"

Nerde/nerede are exactly the same thing, as "it is and it's" in English. However,
almost everyone says Nerde? because it has 2 syllables whereas original form Nerede?
has 3.

Similar situation applies for "Burda/Burada" and "Burdan/Buradan" Here, from here.
"Şurda/Şurada" "Şurdan/Şuradan" there, from there.

These omittings are for spoken Turkish, in the writing you must continue with original
forms "Burada, Nerede, Şuradan.."

--

mi, mı, mu, mü ?

They are the question words of "YES/NO" questions.

Is hotel expensive ? / Otel pahalı mı?
-Yes. / - Evet

Bugün hava güzel mi ? / Is weather nice today?
Okula gittin mi ? / Did you go to school ?

Which hotel is expensive / Hangi otel pahalı? Hangi otel pahalıdır?
- The answer can't be Yes / No.

And today, a piece of Turkish for all Turkish learners, for the sake of the calamity of
the day: Coal mine disaster in Turkey.

kömür : coal
maden : mine
kara ölüm : black death.
başsağlığı : condolence

Hayatını kaybeden tüm madencilerimize Allah'tan rahmet, acılı ailelerine ve tüm
milletimize başsağlığı diliyorum.
