PROGRESS IN Spanish, WEEK 20/52 OF THE 2010 TAC CHALLENGE
SUMMARY L&R this week: 41 hours (“El Principito” by Antoine De Saint-Exupery; “Harry Potter y la piedra filosofal” by J. K. Rowling) Background listening: 8.5 hours (salsa music, short stories, and completed audiobook files) TV: 2.5 hours (a couple of episodes of “El Internado”) ———————————————————— Total L&R in Spanish so far: 41 hours Sum total of Spanish immersion: 52 hours [7 days] Basic reading test scores for week 1, using "La Sombra Del Viento" by Carlos Ruiz Zafón: Day 1: 75% (first 100 words of chapter 1) Day 2: 79% (first 100 words of chapter 2) Day 3: 85% (first 100 words of chapter 3) Day 4: 90% (first 100 words of chapter 4) Day 5: 85% (first 100 words of chapter 5) Day 6: 83% (first 100 words of chapter 6) Day 7: 88% (first 100 words of chapter 7) WANDERLUST CONFESSION BOX Oh no...it says "73 expired kanji for my flashcard reviews...but don't worry, it's ok, they haven't really expired, they're just skulking in another pile somewhere, sticking out their brazen little radical tongues and blowing pictogram raspberries at me from afar. Be patient mis kanjis pequeños, I haven't forgotten you...I'm busy right now, but I'll come back and check on you soon! :) TEANGO’S WORD/PHRASE OF THE WEEK "el gato atigrado" (tabby cat) - what a brilliant, vivid description! I can almost picture Rousseau's illustrious little tiger, perhaps slightly smaller in stature but certainly not in grandeur, stalking an oblivious green woodpecker in my little garden tonight... NOTES My notes for this current Spanish escapade are really all on my other project log "Fighting Windmills", so I'm not too certain what to write this week. I guess it's half-time at this point, and I'm very happy with the results so far, especially as I can read and understand the gist of even some quite challenging texts already. That's much quicker than I ever expected, and absolutely thrilling to witness after just a handful of days. I'll need to put my nose even closer to the grindstone over the next few days, as there's only one more week left of this listening-reading experiment. The following fortnight's experiment will be dedicated to other methods that hope to build on these skills instead. I'm already a little worried about how far I can progress over the next fortnight, especially in terms of activating passive knowledge and keeping a conversation going soon. I hope I won't end up looking completely estúpido in front of my native Spanish tutor during the fourth week, but 3 weeks is indeed very little time to prepare for a complete beginner. Will I be able to make this miraculous quantum leap forward in Spanish?...you'll just have to stay tuned and find out. Perhaps there's a patron saint of language learners and polyglots up there who could intercede on my behalf right now, or should I be looking more towards St Jude (the patron saint of hopeless causes) once again? As long as I don't end up mumbling in crazy tongues and tripping the light fantastic, I'll be happy. Ik had geen beeld geplaatst, maar in ieder geval bedankt voor de correctie van de spelling vna mijn nick. Vorige keer had ik ook geschreven, dat ik Küken ohne C niet had verwacht omdat het meestal CK op het Duits is, of niet? Hola Teango, Este hilo está cerrado entonces, ¿no? Prefieres escribir sobre tu aprednizaje del español allí, en tu nuevo hilo. A mi me gusta esa lengua también, pero la gente habla demasiado de prisa y no se puede entender; cuando alguien habla más despacito, así que lo puedo comprender. ¿Y tu? Wise Owl Chick, ich schreibe mal auf Deutsch, weil Teango kein Niederländisch spricht.
Nach einem langen "ü" kommt ein einfaches "k", also das Küken Nach einem kurzen "ü" kommt ein "ck" wie zum Beispiel in: - die Brücke - mit List und Tücke - drücken - die Mücke In diesem Fall kann man die unterschiedliche Schreibweise am Klang hören. Entschuldigung, ich dachte, ich hätte auf Deutsch geschrieben, aber jetzte siehe ich, dass ich auf Holländisch es gecshirben hatte. Natührlich wollte ich nicht auf einer Sprache schreiben, was der Thread-Eigentumer nicht spricht. Dieses Regel ist also genau wie die Holländische Buchstabierungsregel: Vokal + 1 Konsonant = lange Vokal, vokal + doppelte Konsonant = kurze Vokal. Ich hatte nicht gewusst, dass es auch auf Deutsch gebe. Das ist schön, ich finde dieses Patron ganz toll. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||||||||

Wise Owl Chick hat Recht, die genannte deutsche Rechtschreibregel ist analog zur niederländischen Rechtschreibregel. Nur wird in der niederländischen Sprache der Konsonant verdoppelt und man benutzt kein "ck".

Ok, I'm here now and coming to airlift you out of there...just hold on...(minutes later)...done! 110 kanjitos safely back home where they belong, happy to jump another day. TEANGO’S WORD/PHRASE OF THE WEEK "tiovivo" (merry-go-round, carousel) - a good description of how I used to jump between all these lively languages in the past but never get anywhere and just end up going round in circles; then I started writing logs on the forum and things began to change for the better... :) NOTES Tomorrow I start a new experiment in Spanish which I'll name "El Mariachi", not because I've decided to become a hit-man or run off with a mariachi band, but rather because it marks the end of my initial silent period in Spanish and the beginning of a whole new phase in learning to speak and activate my passive knowledge so far. And yes, there'll be plenty of singing involved (and maybe a little guitar playing too) amongst a myriad of other activities. These last couple of weeks "fighting windmills" have seemed so much longer, more like an epic voyage into wizardry and wonderment than my usual 9 to 7 days that manage to tip-toe by barely unnoticed most of the time. I've exceeded my expectations, and have hopefully ended up with a killer method for studying listening and reading with future languages too.
