I'm in. I say this despite some initial reservations that this may not be the best text for me right now (partly because of some measure of dated vocabulary), but I took a quick listen to the audio narration and the pacing seems good - not overly fast and some helpful slight pauses. Also, there is a reference to Abbotsford in the first chapter (unrelated for sure, but I grew up - chronologically, not in terms of maturity - partly in Abbotsford, BC. I am not advanced enough to follow the story properly only via audio, and even following along with the French text there is a bunch of stuff I am either completely unfamiliar with or with which I am not thoroughly confident, so I do not anticipate moving through more than one chapter per day (audio perhaps twice per chapter, plus looking up unknown words, etc) but that should still put me at story's end by month's end. I am not myself a fan of the LR method - I have a vague recollection of my outing LR as either a military experiment in brain disruption or some mad venture of a group of malicious neuropsychologists - but I anticipate reading the French text while listening to the French audio, then turning to the English text subsequently to fill in the gaps of what I did not understand. Or I may try reading the English first to get the context settled in, then reading + listening to the French version. I recently stumbled upon a big collection of resources (videos, transcripts, learning plans) from Five Colleges (Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst) that was just too good to keep in relative anonymity in my log or the "Links and Resources" sub-forum. Hey, I'm up to the 5th chapter of Le Rayon Vert. The plot of the story is beginning to
come together. As usual with Jules Verne you have savant like characters and some kind of scientific phenomenon going on. I found myself looking around Scotland on Google maps street view to get an idea of geography. I've made a youtube video about the team project for March. Sorry I've not been around for, well, ages. Work and my CELTA course (thankfully both
language-related) have got in the way. I'm going to start chipping away at Le Rayon Vert now. I've had my fill of school French and German lately so it's time to hopefully challenge myself. Will let you all know how I get on. Jack 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

So far I have done one round LR L2/L2 with Le Rayon Vert.
