Interesting, I am not American and have an accent close to that of the standard, BBC or Queen's English, with some features from Sussex, where I live, I say "bin" for "been," but not "sin," the extreme native pronunciation of "seen." I have some trace of a Hertfordshire accent, but most people wouldn't notice this. I also pronounce "ate" as "eight," which seems to be dying out now. The test did not ask for these words and I came out as a New York, New Jersey speaker. I would probably sound closest to New England, Boston, as these speakers of American English only seem to have a trace of an accent to me.

Midland accent for me, but I'm not a native speaker so I guess it's just an approximate Midland accent. :-) And there's also something British mixed in.

Your Result: The Inland North
You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop." Yeah, no. Upstate New York. I never have and never will call soda pop, that is just blasphemy of beverages. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

In my native region we've always called it pop; however I think because I've lived out among people from other parts of the country/world, it's hard for me to not call it soda. Sometimes I call it "soda-pop" which is also heard. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I got Midland, though I've been living in NC for the past few years. In fact I never say
"you" anymore (when I'm addressing more than one person). I always say "y'all". Now for the question that can never be resolved... do you say "Pea-Can" or "Peh-Kahn"??? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Peh-Kahn, always. Pea-Can sounds quite jarring to me and I don't think I've ever actually heard it.

I got "The West," which is accurate as I'm from Colorado. "The Midland" was a very close second.
