I'm using the German version. It doesn't say which CEFR level. I think only the very

That's interesting because I have the newer French course from them and it doesn't say the CEFR levels. Of course
the box I have looks nothing like the box they have on the website for the English base French course. Perhaps the
edition I purchased was from a few years ago.

Today I had my first conversational Dutch lesson and only my second Dutch conversation. I
did not switch back to English even once, so I'm proud of myself. Also, I had perfect
listening comprehension. Starting out in this challenge, my reading comprehension was
already really good, but my listening comprehension was sorely lacking behind. Now I can
follow a Harry Potter audiobook only rarely missing sentences, and apparently it's good
enough for everyday conversations.

I haven't tried speaking yet, like Sprachprofi, but I just started a new dutch-focused blog in which to try out my writing. My first attempt has been posted, hopefully with not too many horrible mistakes. Comments and suggestions welcome.

Next week I have some Belgian couchsurfers coming to stay for 3 days, so then it'll be sink-or-swim time, with regard to speaking. Then I'll be in Brussels on the 16th. Until then, I'm just working hard on finishing the Harry Potter series, and then onto whatever else I feel like reading next.

Total time spent on Dutch so far: 150 hours (mostly L-R)

Hi Doviende, well done! I counted some errors but nothing that terribly impeded my reading. Mainly prepositions and some verbs.
Because I had absolutely nothing better to do, I started out adding corrections using [ b] and the like, then I made another version completely deleting the mistakes from the text and finally I made a third in which I rephrased everything that sounded the least bit unnatural. So, which one would you like? :)

Oooo! It sounds like the complete rephrasing would be the most informative. It's really helpful to hear how a Dutch speaker would say the same ideas, now that I've already tried to spit them out myself. thanks!

Just a couple of things to keep in mind;

* Because blog is such a recent loanword, my intuition about whether it should be “de” or “het” isn't very developed. However, as far as I know all English loanwords are “de” words so I’m assuming that goes for blog as well.

* While zullen means will/shall, zouden only means would, so it doesn’t have the sense of obligation you get from should. Zouden moeten is the closest Dutch gets to translating “should.”

* Hulpvaardig doesn’t so much mean being able to help but being willing to help, so it sounds a bit strange to say it about an inanimate object.

* Punctuation rules are a lot less strict in Dutch. Comma splices are not considered an error and you can easily connect several sentences that in English would have to be separated. You also don’t need to put a comma before every new clause. A conjunction is usually enough.

* And lastly, not nearly everything I’ve changed was ungrammatical or even unnatural. I just tried to write everything the way I would have written it, considering grammar and style at the same time. (So for instance, I replaced some words simply to avoid too much repetition) Another native speaker would undoubtedly have written it differently.

Hoi iedereen!

I found out that luisterboeken.nl has some free samples. In particular there's a lecture
entitled "Het Geval Galilei, Hoorcollege door Herman Philipse" that is just over an hour
long to be found here: click

I listened to it and I was pretty thrilled to be able to understand it from beginning to
end. The speaker enunciates well and it's a good recording for anyone who's learning
Dutch (even just to test your level of understanding).

Could someone please correct the introduction I posted at
http://lang-8.com/25308/journals/802550/Even-voorstellen ?

This is for a mock presentation I'm writing. I want to write down all that I might say
during my presentation one time. This way, I will look up all the vocabulary I'm missing
and I'll get corrections of course. I will not use this text during the actual
presentation though, it will be free speech. Hopefully I will remember all the vocabulary
and corrections I got for the mock presentation.
