"Rules"

1) Each member is responsible for his/her own log. It's not important if he/she creates a new log solely for entries pertaining to Czech or Slovak or uses an existing one. The point is to study the target language and when helpful or possible cooperate with the rest of the team. This thread may be used to post information relevant for the group or updates on one's progress as noted in the indivdual log.

2) Each member may dabble in or study any language as desired or even change the main target language(s) during 2013 as long as at least one target language is Czech or Slovak.

3) Each member may join other teams without losing membership here. One only needs to be studying at least one of Czech or Slovak to be on this team.

I'm really looking forward to this team.

Regarding the 'elder' title, I'm sure I'll really enjoy helping people with their Czech, but if a native like Cavesa or Petrklic comes along to offer their services then I'm happy to move aside.

In 2013 I plan on working as intensively as possible on Czech. I will also be working casually on Slovak. Chung, you can write to me in Slovak whenever you want (if you can be bothered), I might learn something.

That's not too bad in a couple of days. We already have a starting lineup to use an analogy from hockey - 6 members (five skaters and a goalie).

As for a team name and motto the first thing that came to my mind that's associable to Czechs and Slovaks only is the communist-era soft drink kofola. Team Kofola? To stay on this theme, a team motto could then be a slight paraphrase of the slogan used several years ago when I first encountered the drink. This slogan was in Czech and Slovak respectively: Když ji miluješ, není co řešit. / Keď ju miluješ, nie je čo riešiť ("If you love her (i.e. the Kofola drink), there's nothing to figure out"). The personal pronouns ji / ju could be reinterpreted as meaning the team's languages themselves (i.e. the feminine nouns čeština "Czech language", slovenčina "Slovak language").

Of course, more suggestions are welcome.

Both the team name and motto sound perfect to me.

By the way, I love Kofola and drink it regularly at hockey matches here.

I'll support your proposal, Chung, unless somebody comes out with something better, which is highly unlikely to happen :).

I'll support it, as long as I don't actually have to drink our team's namesake! ;-)
