I would play with Pimsluer but i would remember he is speaking to Queen Elizabeth not Elizabeth at the corner store..too formal
Remember you are not watching the movie to understand the words..you are learning the words..the sounds..you are hanging on the words and enjoying the movie..you may understand only 5 words in a 90 minute movie..you are not trying to understand the words..you are hearing the words and watching the action..after a time you will start hearing the and understand ing more words..then sentences..the paragraphs..it will slowly reveal it is to you..
also bring the subtitles back when ever you want for clarity..love the words..in the new language..remember you will NOT understand the movie you are breaking it down and disecting..it and playing with the words..if a movie is boring change it out quickly..you must love the words...sorry i did not say this earlier..Do not stop.. slowly you will understand more words with trying..You are NOT suppose to understand the words..

I will now be using a little portable dvd player 29 dollars in USA to watch all my movies when possible..I used one for the first time last night and understood more than 3 times than normal....i turn off the lights and use this little dvd player right on my stomach and watch the movie in bed..i picked up more words than ever..also use some nice headphones and you are locked into the movie..it blocked all other sounds..

this is a great discovery for me...i hear even the fast speech so much easier.it also focuses you on the screen better..it is more concentrated way to watch the movie..very nice!

Do not try to figure out the word..do not try and translate.. Enjoy the movie!..Disecting a movie for me is hanging on every word because I am really into the story..Do you love Romance movies..watch it in your new language.. you must be drawn into the story..Watch the first 1 or 2 times with subtitles(just to be drawn in deeper to understand..NOT for word by word translate)

If you love a great scene..watch it 3..4..5..times!
Key: Listen to the words..Example..Love the word "casa" don't think "casa"..means "house" you are not studying ..you are enjoying the movies!

My brother has watched Batman over 40 times and knows every line by heart..

Here is a good way to disect a movie

1. Watch the movie..1 or 2 times with subtitles
2. next day ..watch it again without subtitles..
3. watch the movie 5 more times over the next week..rewinding on scenes and dialogue you love..
As you read the newspaper in your new language ..and SPEAK to people in your new language ..you will see the same words from your newspaper and your movies..the only words you need will
always come back..again ..and again..
Trust me your brain knows these words ..it is a lazy genius..

I spoke to my Family..co-workers..and Starbuck waiter in my new Scandanavian today..just start using the words you know..Jeg vill har hot coffee

They sometimes just take your order..they only hear coffee!..but as you use these new words your brain figures ..i guess we will be using these words again so it remembers them easy..

Use you Japanese today!..Sprinkle it in with your English..

Movies will tell you how to say Hello..good morning..how are you....give me a cigarette..i love you.. better than any phrase book..I have never watched a movies that does not use these phrases..also feel free to put the subtitles back on..only for understanding of the plot NOT for word for word translation

Do not spend a penny on any language course..
The best one is free FSI..the the best part is you just look at the English and you know which words are outdated..since FSI is a little old..
hope this helps..please feel free to ask any questions..take care

IF YOU CAN FIND SAME NEW LANGUAGE SUBTITLES YOU CAN SUPER CHARGE THIS
You can super charge the disecting by adding new language subtitles to new language movies..So you may watch a movie 1 or 2 times with subs in English ..then 2 times with new language subs..then maybe 3 to 5 more times over a week with no subs..rewinding.on scenes you like..if you get bored with the movie..change it out..or work on listening to scenes you love! and lines you love)This is shocking the brain at multiple angles.. The possiblities are amazing !Take care

I am sure you got to some kind of comfortable level of understanding of everyday Spanish. But to claim fluency is a bit insulting to those who put in serious effort in really mastering the language, becuase it cannot be achieved in a few months. The acid test is: Would anybody hire you for a SERIOUS job speaking Spanish (not picking oranges or gardening). A job in sales, administration for example.

Let's see how your "learn language by watching porn" worked for Swedish:

Det är ett välkänt faktum att män med mindre könsorgan är de som är mest intresserade snuskiga och omoraliska bilder och litteratur. De män som talar högt och gärna om detta är de som är värst påverkade av fenomenet med låg självkänsla förorsakat av avsaknad av stort könsorgan. Det är definitivt olämlpligt att diskutera sådant här på ett språkforum och det imponerar ingen förutom omogna tonårspojkar.

If you managed to understand it, bear that in mind, else keep on studying but perhaps upgrade the quality of your study material a few notches.

To me the problem isn't so much with him claiming fluency, since that has no impact on me whatsoever. I don't really care how fluent somebody else would label me and I am not affected by how fluent or not somebody else claims to be. Being able to use a language well - the pure enjoyment of reading good books or listening to stimulating plays, or simply chatting with "the natives" on a deeper level - is its own reward without the need for external praise or comparisons. Overall, I am not in competition with anybody, and I think few people on here believe they are either.

What is particularly annoying, though, is the claim that we have all been wasting our time for years - when there is some "secret" quick method that gives better results and that the OP has found. I have two problems with this:

The first is that I actually enjoy the way I learn languages - the journey itself is as fulfilling as the destination (in fact, the journey is the destination in my case). I would not enjoy hours of TV and movies each day. I much prefer a good book. For example, last month I was rolling in laughter as I read Odsudy Dobrého Vojáka Švejka in Czech, and this month I have been on an emotional rollercoaster reading Jean de Florette and Manon de sources in French. Spending that time on TV watching would have been, to me, a lost opportunity.

The second issue I have, though, is the somewhat insulting implication that we are all blind or foolish and somehow cannot see the OPs point - hence his continual repetition of it and the throwing in of continual random "evidence". The OP may well have found his approach effective, but this forum is a place for making suggestions and sharing opinions rather than overselling. I would much prefer all the overselling from the OP were confined to a single thread - and without constant repetition - with a follow-up thread where others who are interested can report on their progress on using the method themselves. The effectiveness of the approach then will be revealed from the experience reports of many, rather than the marketing efforts of one over-vocal forum member.
