You know what's funny, I've never studied Swedish EVER and I got a lot of that :p. |

My point exactly...Those who needed what they needed from this thread received it and those who did not...did not..

Yes but you speak both English and German and study Icelandic, all part of the same language family as Swedish.
Much as maybe one who knew French and Romanian and studied Italian might understand a lot of Portugese.
Which I've also said a bunch of times, those who can learna language passively with relative ease usually know other branches of that language family.

...and why can no one in this thread spell "Pimsleur"? |
|
|
It's "Pimpluer" because it's mostly about getting women drunk on wine and milk and scoring with the minimum amount of vocabulary.
Imagine an American man sitting next to a Swedish woman.
Hej! |
|
|
Pimsleur teaches very important words such as "beer" "wine" "rib steak", or if you don't drink alcohol "mineral water". It may not teach you everything, but certainly taking the Pimsleur course will make traveling somewhat easier.
edit: at least you can get something to eat or drink... Anyway, spelling "Pimsleur" wrong might indicate that the writer doesn't have the course. I do think that "Pimpluer" is a good modification of the course name though :)

If you managed to understand it, bear that in mind, else keep on studying but perhaps upgrade the quality of your study material a few notches. |

That was the funniest reading comprehension exercise ever.
And the fact that it was presented in a "lets see if you can read this!" manner, makes
it even more rewarding, even if the challenge weren't for me. |

Now I just wanna study some swedish to know what you wrote... I am catching some words
etc. though

This is an interesting method. I've noticed from using FSI that
1. I get burned out
2. I don't get alot of listening practice with it.
I have a hard time understanding even the amount of vocabulary that I covered already. However I can speak the learned vocabulary good.

Whatever works, I guess! I've heard of people doing this, and I know people who have
learned Spanish in less than a year. The founder of this forum for goodness sake
learned Spanish in a year! It is possible, and it seems like this method was useful to
healing. There's really no need to criticize the method... it's been successful in more
cases than just the OP's.
And in addition, I think that's pretty good Swedish for only studying a little while!
(I don't speak Swedish, but I have studied some Scandinavian languages and gather that
healing is reading, on the contrary, from a rather complex book and is pleased with his
progress.)
Now, what did you write, Cordelia, cuz I don't have a clue :P I have a guess, but it
seems a tad rude.
Anyway, just my two cents. And thanks for sharing, I'm sure some people will try your
method and find it useful. For others not so much, but that's no reason to insult
someone who's trying to contribute in a positive manner.
