2005 JLPT 3
文字 87% (47/54) 読解 60% (30/50) 聴解 54% (12/22) Some of the questions were missing or badly formed and so couldn't be answered ... for example there should have been 50 on the 読解 but the last 3 questions were missing. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

They speak, I fail to understand. I almost never fully understand, mostly I only partially understand. So I miss the twists that they throw in. For the 1991 paper I listened multiple times to the audio, following along with the script and now I can understand what they are saying. But I still found the 2005 audio a struggle tonight. I'll repeat the intensive listening with the 2005 transcript and then see if that improves things when I try the 2004 one. I think part of the problem is that I'm not processing things sufficiently quickly. So by the time I've internalised sentence 1, they're halfway through sentence 2 and I'm immediately playing catch-up. If you're just not processing things quickly enough (and I'm guessing by your scores in the
other sections that you don't have a deficiency in grammar and vocab) then I would definitely recommend studying a dialogue with a transcript so you understand it fully, followed by shadowing. I found shadowing to be more helpful for listening than for speaking. If I could get the words out at the same speed as the audio it somehow made it easier to parse. But your scores on the practice tests as a whole are looking pretty good, I'm sure you'll pass with flying colours. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

It's well pas tthe time I should have posted a progress report on my May goals.
1. Keep up the Kanji reviews at Reviewing The Kanji. Done. 2. Keep up with Anki reviews. I now have a (small) sentences deck and I'm mining JPOD lessons and NHK Easy News for more vocabulary and sentences. Done. 3. Keep the memrise N4 and N5 courses watered. I'll aim to keep the N4 retention rate above 80% as I finish enabling the N4 kanji components. I aim to have all the applicable N4 kanji enabled by the end of this month. Done and all N5/N4 kanji enabled. 4. I'll continue to mine JPOD101 lessons for vocabulary and sentences. Specifically I want to complete that process for the first 10 lessons of the Lower Intermediate Season 2. Done. 5. Thoroughly revise Lessons 1-15 in Minna No Nihongo. This means checking that all the vocabulary is known or SRSed (including the reference sections) and checking all the grammar (by doing all the exercises if necessary). Done. In fact I finisehd up to lesson 16. 6. Keep the audio going. Hopefully if I mine the vocab for LI S2 and keep repeating the season during the commute I should see some improvement. Done. I did see some improvement in my understanding of those lessons. It's probably helped a little for the N4 listening too. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Time for some goals for June.
1. Keep up the Kanji reviews at Reviewing The Kanji. 2. Keep up with Anki reviews (vocabulary, kanji and sentences). 3. Keep the memrise N4 course watered and keep the retention rate above 80%. I'll also try to keep the N5 course watered, but if I run out of time this will be the first thing to go. 4. I will continue to work through JLPT 3 past papers. I'll aim to average two complete papers per week. Allowing for marking and analysis, that's about 2 hours per paper, so 4 hours per week. 5. Thoroughly revise the remaining lessons in Minna No Nihongo. Right now I've completed the first 30. So at two per day I should be done in time to leave a few weeks for other revision. That shouldn't be too onerous as I've been through all of these before. Each lesson takes about 45m. 6. I will keep the audio going during the commute but one specific target will be to learn and shadow at least 4 of the JLPT 3 audio tracks. Reviews take about 45m - 1 hour per day total (but can be spread quite easily throughout the day). The MNN revision is probably the most difficult to fit in, but I'm hoping that if I fall behind during the week, I can catch up at the weekend. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||
