This is the kinda sorta sad reality of the "new and improved" Portugais du Brésil, lesson 10.
1. Que calor!
2. Sim, o calor está insuportável.
3. As janelas já estão abertas...
4. E as portas?
5. Você está louca? E os ladrões?!

Not THAT much. It's going from French to Portuguese, so there is a lot of transparency. Each lesson is 1.5-2 double (face to face) pages.

For this experiment I'm doing Portuguese to French (1986 version) and each lesson has 4
pages with 7 to 10, sometimes 11 sentences. I'm just on lesson 2 but took a look until
lesson 20 and it's the same in quantity.

L'Allemand - lesson 16 completed.
I began to question what 'passive' and 'active' phases really are.
The course doesn't want me to memorize everything but to learn the plural forms of all
the words I come across throughout the .course.
I had a look today on all the previous lessons I did, I have just read quickly the German
text. I see that I remember and understand all the words but on the other hand, while
reading I had the feeling that I couldn't have say those German words if they had asked
me to translate from my language.

fireballtrouble - you've hit on one of the main questions I have about Assimil. I have
never been able to do the active wave as described, where you go back and translate the
lesson and discover that you've amazingly assimilated it. I just don't retain enough
vocabulary, and so the active phase takes me twenty to thirty minutes of hard work, not
five minutes of easy work.
So it's going to be very interesting to see what happens, since most of us will hit it
around the same time, +/- 4 weeks.

I am doing one Assimil lesson every single day since 1 week.
My method is as follows:
I listen to the audio without reading the transcript, and see if I understand
something. I do it 4 or 5 times until I am sure all the remaining words are unknown.
After that I read the transcript, and look for known characters. After I listen to the
audio and read. After all that, I read the transcription. Then I listen again while
reading. After I listen and write the dialogue while they are speaking. At the end, I
listen to the exercises as many times as needed in order to fully understand
everything. I also write them down.
2 last considerations: I am learning Chinese, so I learn every character, and the words
(composed by 2 or more characters).
I am focusing on traditional transcript, but Assimil only has the simplified one. I
have to translate.
In total no more than 20 minutes daily. It's really fun. The thing that I enjoy the
most is the exercises because you don't really know what they will talk about and it's
very challenging.

Just did the 10th lesson of Il nuovo russo senza sforzo (sticked with the Italian one, just eventually resorting to the French or Spanish ones to clear up this or that Italian idiom that I still can get from context nonetheless).
I still don't feel like there's a vocabulary flood going on, and I only hope it never starts and everything keeps up on a smooth pace. I've realized there's accusative and dative, unlike in Georgian where it's more or less grouped up at least in the present. I'm less worried because instead of reviewing this book, I can do Russian Without Toil and Le Russe - 2008 later on as a review, but I don't want the same feeling I have for Norwegian Assimil to grow with Il Nuovo Russo Senza Sforzo.
