Update: 8 books, 8 pieces of writing and 26 films in Spanish.

I'm reading a fascinating book of interviews by Jorge Ramos called "Detras de la Máscara". I'm logging each 100 pages as I complete them so I can see some progress on my Twitter log page. The first 100 pages took me 4 days. I have two more books by him and the three total 1,000 pages, so that will keep me busy for a while.

Finished HP and the Goblet of Fire in Dutch at long last, which weighs in at 547 pages. I have the first and sixth HP books in Dutch at the ready, but may try something else for a while. Too much HP for too long is really making me focus on the shortcomings of J. K. Rowling's writing when I should just be enjoying the imaginative aspects of her stories () while improving my language skills. To this end, I downloaded an eBook of Dean Koontz' Odd Thomas (De Gave) from bol.com and got started with that.

Still working on HP in French and reading A Game of Thrones in German.

I am not entered in any Super Challenge for German, but I can also report for my log:

BOOKS (German)

1-3. Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen

Thank you for sharing this! I've been hoping to find some interesting Spanish non-fiction and Ramos' books
seem to be very interesting. I've now downloaded the audio version of his "La ola latina" from iTunes. I don't
normally like listening to audiobooks but his journalistic writing style works well even in audio.

Update #2 weeks 3 & 4

Books
Harry potter 1 -Read 127 pages

Film
1.La piovra - Season 4 -episodes 1-6:Watched around 480 minutes.

2.Harry Potter 1-Listened to 240 minutes of Audiobook.

3.Cantieri d'italia- Episodes 1-6:Watched around 168 minutes of content.

4.L'italiano in famiglia-Episodes 1-3:watched around 57 minutes of content.

5.Italian RAI News-Watched around 95 minutes of news content.

La piovra is a really good series and i found i could understand a fair bit of the Italian that was obviously helped by the use of subtitles. The other films on my list i watched without subtitles. The news i can only understand about 30-50% depending on the content whilst i could understand a fair amount of the L'italiano & cantieri because they are geared towards newly arrived foreigners in italy,so hence the reason for the higher comprehension.I'm still a work in progress.Hovering around the A2 level.

i finished my first novel in vietnamese...220 pages and god it was boring. So much happened in the first 30 pages, but so little happened in the last 100 pages...

But it made me realise how much i could understand, despite not knowing so many words - they were mainly adverbs or unimportant adjs to add mood - i stopped worrying and read to understand the gist of things. When i did that I was able to enjoy (or at least enjoy as much as i could - the book sucked) it much more.

I managed to read about 120 pages in about 5 or 6 hours....i guess that's good progress?

So - no Russian films lately, and no finished books - but lots of conversations. I have gone to a lot of language classes lately, and I insist that we speak for at least an hour each time. When I meet real live (patient) Russians I do the same.

I have started on The Little Prince, but where I in French could fly through it like the wind, and finished it in little over an hour, in Russian it takes ages.

Argh. Focusing very hard on New Year's Eve 2013. I WILL have read the 10 000 pages(100 books) by then. I will.

Just had another movie fail. I tried to watch De battre mon coeur s'est arrêté
(The Beat that My Heart Skipped). Romain Duris is a pretty little thug who discovers
his soft sensitive side with the help of a beautiful Chinese pianist, who helps him
pursue his own dreams of being a concert pianist.

Or so I read. I only made it through the first twenty minutes. The movie got rave
reviews, but I had zero interest in any of the characters. It didn't work as a studying
tool either - the dialogue was full of slang, but the subtitles were only in English. I
would've kept going if there were French subtitles; it would've been at least
interesting to decipher what the characters were saying.

Still at 6 films, and I'm 1/3 of the way through Madame Bovary. I'll need to pick up my
reading speed if I'm going to make even a half-challenge. That, or pick an easier book
next time.
