10-14. De Reis om de Wereld in 80 Dagen (audiobook)

Continuing my previously noted reading, but I also just got the 1500-page German translation of My Life, by Bill Clinton, so we'll see how much reading time gets taken away from Dutch and French by that.

I am not entered in any Super Challenge for German, but I also am still reporting for my log:

I guess, listening to music is equivalent to watching movies, in condition there is no repeats (so one should find 50 different albums)

Well you are allowed to watch and count the same movie multiple times, so you could just listen to the same album multiple times if they are really equivalent.

Weekly update for German Super-Challenge:

BOOKS:

Slowly reading through my first graphic novel. By the time I finish this it's going to count twice, given the amount re-reading I am doing! I am packing up house now, and about to decamp to Berlin for a couple of months. I'll be interested how much this is going to impact my German studies.

MOVIES:

14-16. Breaking Bad - Season 1 (2008). The dubbing is not bad on this excellent series. Geil Kristall. The more I watch the easier it gets. I am starting to think that I just really need to watch a lot of TV and movies to learn German. I guess it's always good to play to your strengths. 8/10.

13. Kurz und Schmertzlos (1998). Fatih Akin's first feature film. Quite different from the other's I have seen (Soul Kitchen; Im Juli). A sort of multicultural Mean Streets set in the immigrant community of Hamburg, which follows three friends (one Turkish, one Greek, one Serbian) who navigate the crime scene and get sucked in ever deeper. Some difficultly following the dialogue, but definitely worth watching. I keep a notebook next to me as a watch so I can write down phrases or words that I don't understand. I got quite a few good idioms out of this, like 'du bist ein kleiner hosenscheißer' (lit. you are a small boy who still shits in your pants - perhaps roughly translated as 'you are a pussy'), 'quatsch mit soße' (literally 'crap with sauce' - perhaps 'that's bullshit') and 'das ist so abgefahren' (literally 'this is so departed' but as an idiom 'this is so crazy'). This came out in the same year as Lola Rennt - which I like a lot - but this is definitely the superior film. Not sure why, it was released with the English title "Short, sharp, shock"; when the title would literally and more reasonably be translated as "Short and Painless". Recommended. 8/10.

12. Im Juli (2000). A romantic comedy, by Fatih Akin, with a very straight Moritz Bleibtreu travelling overland from Hamburg to Istanbul to meet his true love. Not bad, but a little too implausible for my liking. Still I always like a good road movie across Europe, and the Balkans look particularly nice in Summer. 6/10.

I know, I love it. It really feels like magic sometimes, doesn't it? The brain is amazing.

I thought we had come to the consensus that music would not count for audio, but that anyone who wanted to could keep track of it separately.

That is correct. Listening to music is great, but it does not count as film for the Super Challenge.

Like complete magic. It's so cool how we learn without having access to the learning mechanism.

Fine with me. I am not counting albums.
