That was a great introduction. Good luck with your studies, although, it sounds like you are on track. You're right about the Ξενοφών in the HAU podcasts. His interjections are hilarious! It looks like you are using a lot of Greek-only materials. That's great. It shows that you have a good basic knowledge of the language. Since there are a few people around here using Greek learning materials without a base in another language I thought I'd share this Basic Grammar of Greek (in Greek only). Perhaps it will be useful to someone.

embici, thanks for posting useful links. I need to become more advanced before I start using Greek-only material, but it is good to know where to look for it once I get to that level.

Welcome Gomorritis! I am happy to see yet another member who is interested in Greek - and having Spanish as your mother tongue is no disadvantage either.

I have a huge advantage for the pronunciation, especially since Greek and Spanish share the same 5 vowel sounds,
which in my opinion are much harder to master than consonant sounds. I did have to practise a lot of consonant sounds, cause Greek has quite a few more than Spanish, and slight variations in many of them. Also very important are the intonations, which are especially similar if you speak castillan Spanish like I do (a South American or Andalusian would have much more difficulty to sound like a Greek when speaking Greek). But there are Greek words that I still find hard to pronounce, for example "γυαλιά", or other very tricky things like saying a word which starts with "ζ" when the previous word ended with "σ". This will always be a mystery to me. None of the Latin American Spanish varieties sound even remotely like Greek, but it is strange how Greek some Spain Spanish speakers can sound. And this even carries over to the typical accents you hear when people speak English. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I know that commercial. I also saw a parody of it, in which they make fun of how Spanish language (from Spain)
