It may be awkward in a concrete situation, but if you have paid a lot to travel to a far-away country and only have a few days there then it would be idiotic to waste your precious time on some local jerk who refuse to speak his/her language to you just because you don't speak exactly like him/her. Yeah that's true. I suppose I'm more thinking of situations like when the person in question is a friend of a friend or both of you are in the same group conversation. If they're a stranger then there's not much awkwardness; when it happened to me in France, at the Paris Couchsurfing meeting for example, I could and did just walk away and talk to someone else. 2 persons have voted this message useful | ||||||
