I am in Xian in China right now, and there are major demonstrations here. Most city roads are blocked, and
the Chinese government has sent a cell phone message to all citizens of China who have a cell phone, asking them to go home. There has been shooting right outside the hotel, and several cars of Japanese origin, and stores with Japanese goods have been burned. Cars right outside the hotel have been burned too, so the hotel staff are keeping guard outside the hotel. I am a tough cookie, but right now I am a tad worried. In Norwegian newspapers there is nothing about this, even though our guide said the riots were nation wide. Yup, I just overheard something about that in the news, and my mother came to me asking why the Chinese might be protesting against the Japanese, so I can confirm that bit, but I have no idea what the whole business is about. I'll try and stay tuned for the next report, due in like 6 hours.

They are protesting over some islands that the Japanese have claimed as theirs, and the Chinese evidently
feel that their government has been to weak. I have no idea who is "right", but it is extremely uncomfortable to be caught up in the middle of it. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||
