CHALLENGE: 100 books and 100 movies

CURRENT LEVEL: A1 comfortably, possibly a low A2; 2 classes during summer school almost 3 years ago, and many abortive attempts at self-study during the past 3 years. On a good day, I'm probably a mid-level beginner.

COMMENTS: I'm mostly interested in learning to read Spanish, but using Spanish actively in writing and speaking is good, too. I plan to do 20-25 books and 20-25 films and read or watch them several times.

This is going to be a wild ride!

Question: Do learning materials count? I'll find enough Spanish materials, I'm sure, but I'm just wondering.

CHALLENGE: 100 books, 100 films, 100 x 30min conversations.

CURRENT LEVEL: This is my first attempt at learning a second language, I'm confidant to
say that I'm a solid A2, maby bordering a B1.

COMMENTS: Very optimistic actually, I have been lurking these theads for a few months now
and have finally gotten the courage to join and participate on these boards. I will
write more extensively about my goals and plan of attack in the general Super Challenge
thread.

First film down: Only 99 to go:-)

1. Robin Hood
Robin Hood in Russian was strange for me who is used to watching it in Swedish (that's right, Swedish - not Norwegian), but it was fun to see it in a totally foreign language.

I too have finished my first film, I put it on to wash the dishes and the water has long grown cold with only
three things washed. Turns out Dora L'exploratrice isn't so bad!

1. Dora L'exploratrice - Suivez La Carte
While I didn't understand all of it, I understood enough to know what was going on. At 90 minutes, it was
difficult at first, especially as there were all of 3 English words in the first episode. I was struggling, because I
expected at least a 'yes' here and a 'thank you' there but it seemed to be entirely in French. Regardless, I
understood a fair bit and the later episode had some characters who only spoke English. They were barely in
the show, but it helped a little. I found myself engjoying it, and am glad I watched it. That said, I'm not so
sure I'm glad that it was my first entry for the challenge, but it is much easier than anything else I could have
watched!

I have finished my first film, which was the Spanish version of Stardust, as well. I understood nearly all of it. However, Captain Shakespeare was incredibly difficult to understand.

LANGUAGE: French and English

CHALLENGE: Full for movies, 50/50 for books

CURRENT LEVEL: around B1 (French) and C1/C2 (English)

COMMENTS: I was originally going to do a full challenge for French but since that means
five books per month, I realize this will be impossible if I want to keep reading in
other languages as well. Since reading more in English was one of my goals for this year,
I've decided to divide the 100 books equally between French and English but watch 100
films in each, so I guess that makes it a 75% challenge for both.

REGISTERING FOR THE SUPER CHALLENGE

LANGUAGE: Manadrin

CHALLENGE; THE SUPER CHALLENGE: 100 FILMS. 100 BOOKS.

CURRENT LEVEL: No level: - Level is awfull I cant even handle basic things and understand nothing except for the occasion word here and there.

Comments: This will probably be a test of endurance in the film department. I have yet to find a Mandrin film that I can stomach for its full length. I will also not be registering with twitter as it is blocked in China.
