Just behind the lower front teeth - actually the tip doesn't touch the teeth but the part behind touches the teeth next to them - the mandibular lateral incisors, I believe. So, whatever part of the tongue that's closest to them.
Does this help?

Very!
Now I understand why it sounded "different". Thanks for the accurate description.

Actually, I had to sound the s slowly a couple of times and really feel which part of the tongue was in contact with which teeth (and I had to look up the Wikipedia article to get the terminology right!). I'm glad my description helped.

I wouldn't say that the tip touches the alveolar ridge - the blade definitely does, though. If the tip is in contact with anything (at all), it's the lower front teeth. But personally, I feel contact with the mandibular lateral incisors (one day I'll form a band with that name...).
An expert on phonetics may disagree (or at least, have a more academic explanation).

No it's definetely not an alveloar fricative. I'd say it's a palatal-alveolar fricative. I
think that mostly every Swedish fricative is palatal-alveolar. Like the k in front of a
palatal vowel: "köra", "kina" and so on...
It's interesting how they never mention
these important details even in specialised books about Swedish phonetics.

Argh, I got my degree!
I mean argh, I had exams on three Tuesdays in a row and then my diploma presentation. So I kept starting consistency goals and breaking the chain on Tuesdays.
Now I'm off to St Petersburg so I don't think I'll try to complete the 7 days of Danish. Still aiming for the Swedish goal though.
I've also read jeff's post properly and it makes sense now. I took the mandibular thing to mean the part below the alveolar ridge.

@Serpent
Congrats! I think that achievement is way more important than our little monthly challenges, so don’t beat yourself up if you don’t finish the 7-day streak.
Enjoy St Petersburg: it’s such a wonderful city!
