There's some words in Japanese I hate. Basically words have shortened versions of themselves just to
confuse people like me. Right now I'm thinking of 足る and 足りる. I was writing on lang 8 and I think I did
some sort of cross between the two versions. Whatever it was was wrong. And I didn't even realize there
were two words so close to each other like that. Argh.

I gave up and bought Kanji in Context off Amazon. Only the 2nd workbook was cheap but the others weren't too bad. Compared to college text books it was a good value. I pretty much only read good things about this series and I've wanted to get my hands on it for a while. It's a bit confusing why the series seems to be out of print if it's so highly regarded. I'm guessing there's no audio component - I didn't see any in any descriptions. But that's fine.

A small concern is the lack of English in the book. I don't have an actual published dictionary, I use a variety of resources that all use EDict. Which I like a lot but it's pretty obviously not as good as real published dictionaries.

I'm doing pretty well on my grammar flash card reviews. I have gotten through about 150 cards so far. The cards test me on production or they wouldn't be at all challenging. I have about 300 more to go. They're all from Japanese 102, 201, and 202 Yookoso books. Really useful stuff but not terribly advanced either.

I'm pretty sure you'll be at a high enough level to handle Kanji in Context. I found a combination of EDict and Eijirou seemed to answer most of the things I couldn't figure out in the example sentences.

If you can master everything in it you should be well on your way to N1 mastery and beyond. The only problem I had with it is it's so long, so dense, and the format is so samey...

Samey? So it's dry and boring and puts you to sleep?

Well I have been sleeping badly lately. Perhaps it's the lack of kanji study in my life right now.

I ended up ordering the books from WhiteRabbit. I didn't realize they carried it. I guess it's not out of print? The price was about the same for brand new even with shipping so I went with that.. and got one of the graded readers too. Actually a book aimed at 6th graders. I looked for other interesting stuff to get to spoil myself on their site but really didn't see anything. Aside from the casio dictionaries. And I looked online for someone on youtube to convince me to throw away my money but nobody was convincing enough. The fact that these things are aimed at Japanese speakers so most everything is in Japanese is a drawback. And the screens don't look nearly as slick as an iPhone or android smart phone. They come fully loaded with super reputable dictionaries.. but I can't see using it as being very efficient. I really wanted to waste my money too. I might get an iPod touch instead. I really miss Midori and Japanese on it from my iPhone. This dictionary IMI on Android is pretty nice but it doesn't have the ability to draw a kanji and the example sentences have no furigana or any way to lookup the Japanese words contained within.

Well I went to the iStore and ended up making some purchases. I am back on the iPhone. I missed a few
things about it a lot. So I'll be selling my samsung note 3. And I got the iPad air to myself as well. It's setting
up right now but I already am really happy with it. It's so light and smaller and well feels like what a tablet
should be compared to my iPad 3. The screens look the same of course but this thing is really light. I can
hold it in two hands and surf and chat just like on my note 3. The iPad 3 I more or less had to put down like a
little laptop because it was bigger and heavier. It's. Great device still though. I'll be giving it to my sister for her
Christmas gift. I'm typing this entry on the iPhone and I have to say it's a pleasure that the phone can fix my
typos perfectly and there's no bugs.. On android at the end of a line sometimes it's bugged out when it came
to wrapping and it wouldn't type what I told it to for that word.

Anyway. I also met my 1st honest to god   日本人お宅. Well I don't know if he's a nerd in real life but he sure
is into anime and posts about it a lot on Lang 8. So I'm enjoying his entries. He reminds me of an aqaintence
of mine who posted about all the upcoming releases on live journal. This was way before I got into anime and
Japanese. They seem like they're the same people though. It's kind of weird. I don't know that I'm really an
otaku since I don't get quite as excited as these guys. Maybe.

I finished the grammar deck I made from my 102, 201, 202 packets. Finally! This has been on the back
burner for ages. I really thought it would help my speaking a lot. I'm thinking it's just the another step of many
I need to take to get there though. It took many hours to get through though so I'll pat myself on the back for
now. And I'll need to start adding more grammar cards soon. I don't think the reviews will be too bad since
several cards I got right in the 1st try and got pushed out quite a lot.

I'm thinking of making my vocabulary flashcards so they require me to make a sentence. So I'll see the
English on side 1 and maybe some hints and then I have to make the target sentence or make something
close. This is pretty much how my grammar deck works. It might be a bit much for vocab however. Maybe an
expression deck instead. Not sure.
