I'd like to join Team う (Japanese) for 2013.
That, plus an occasional cup of tea (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o5lfdE_04Y) should
keep me going on my journey for next year.
I'll use Japanese as my primary target and perhaps French as my secondary (just for a
bit of light relief now and then: there are plenty of FR books in the local library and
absolutely no JP ones :-().
My Japanese level is approximately N5 (how approximately I will not know until either
the end of January or sometime in March). I'm not sure where I am in French. I can
usually make it through a novel at 50 pages/day with a good deal of help from
wordreference.com; I can usually get the gist of news items on TV5 and I can order a
meal in a restaurant but probably not understand when the waiter tells me that the veal
cutlet is off today.

Slovak is non-existant, others are better:) I'm probably more useful simply as a native speaker of a Slavic language than for helping with a specific one. More like a different perspective:) For example finding out what Russian linguists' opinion is or how something is explained in Russian-based textbooks:)

As far as helping others with languages, I can obviously help with English (uncommon, right? :D). I can help
with Polish, too - I have a good knowledge of grammar and vocabulary, although there are definitely
limitations. With Spanish I can catch basic mistakes, but my Spanish is still a work in progress. I can also be
of some assistance when it comes to Latin.
Thank you to all the native speakers who have volunteered to help out! Since there are lots of competent
Polish and Spanish speakers here, I don't know how useful my contribution will be, but I'll help when I can.

Thanks for pointing that out! I didn't even notice, since I'm so used to seeing it written correctly!

Good morning everyone!

You are already on the Russian team, but you also mentioned German, French and Hebrew. That would be three more teams and I think that would be a little much to deal with. I won’t stop you if you want all of them, but you might prefer to pick one. Right now I have you down with a question mark on all three of these teams: Germanic, Romance, and Middle Eastern

ok, I hear what you are saying about being on multiple teams and I am working out my study calendar right now. Keep my name on the Germanic, Romance and Middle Eastern teams for now especially if it means keeping a team together.

I don't see a point in splitting the teams as well. I'm with the philosophy "the more, the better" =)

Amerykanka, it would be fantastic to hear about Polish from a non-Slavic perspective!

Welll, as I said, I would be happy to help if I can! Slavic languages are my favorites (even though I study and
have studied mostly Romance languages - kind of ironic) and I'm always eager to work with and discuss
them. I hope to someday study at least Russian in addition to Polish!
