I'm back to reading my German books out loud. No trip to Germany this year, unfortunately.

I'm back to Deutsche Welle's Interactive Course, aiming to finish up to A1, because maybe
I'll enroll in a German course and I plan to start it at level A2.

Just finished visiting Switzerland on business and had some brief conversations with cab drivers, hotel reception,
etc. Swiss German was a bit of a challenge to understand, but it got easier ( they probably switched to •more
slowly spoken* Hochdeutsch
to help me out). Am currently vacationing in the Netherlands. Can only comprehend a few words of spoken
Dutch,
but I can make out most signs based on similarities to either German or English. Will visit Germany a few days
from
now. It's rather warm at the moment. Will definitely enjoy both the bread and the beer. Hope all are having an
enjoyable summer, wherever you may be.

Edit: must have been jet-lagged when writing this post. I meant to write German with a strong Swiss accent. No
one spoke true Swiss German to me, Gott sei dank. They definitely were very kind and spoke clearly and slower
than normal.

Dear Schnitzlers,

I just found this interesting documentary on YouTube. It's about an English journalist who wants to find out the secret behind German economic success. In order to do so, he and his family move to Nuremberg and try to live a "typical" (slightly clichéd) German family life.

I didn't watch all of it, but I think it's quite good and entertaining and might be a good introduction to the German mentality and way of life. Enjoy!

"[in the pencil factory] He's doing well but he's a bit slow..." - hilarious! I'd love to see a version of this for other countries some day; this was a little trip down memory lane. :)
