It is incredibly tempting to add a half challenge for Spanish. I think i might have to do it.
My books for Italian have been Hunger Games and Harry Potter so far, but my library didnt have the 5th in Italian so
i've just started it in Spanish, and i would really like the 894 pages to count for something. I told myself that i
wouldn't add the Spanish challenge because i had no movies to watch, but thats really a horrible excuse, especially
considering all the recommendations in this thread alone (the Isabel series looks interesting!). So i think it's going to
happen.
My Italian movies were at first doctor who episodes with Italian subtitles, and then some movies like La Vita e Bella
and La tigre y la neve. I haven't been watching much lately. I need to get back on that!
Everyone seems to be doing well so far, keep it up! =)

CHALLENGE: Advanced Super Challenge
CURRENT LEVEL: A2-B1
COMMENTS: I'll be mostly keeping track of my progress on my blog (link to the left). My
methodology of tracking is a bit different (500 hours instead of 200 movies. 50 400-500pg
books instead of 200 100pg books), but they're mostly convertible.

Good luck. Just a point of clarification: You are doing the Advanced Super Challenge. The Super Challenge is "only" 10000 pages and 100 movies.

I don't know if there was an explicit conversion factor for pages for the Chinese/Japanese worked out, but the standard challenge is 10000 pages with a standard paperback having 250 words/page, so 2.5 million words/characters.

Another late registrant ^^
LANGUAGE:French
CHALLENGE: Half Super Challenge
CURRENT LEVEL:A2
COMMENTS: I'll start with tons of TV series on video, adding French subtitles to the French conversations. In a few weeks I'll move to Belgium, having then full access to francophone TV, while probably not understanding any little word. But this is what this challenge is for...
I will update my progress primarily in my log.

I figured out a good way for counting pages when reading podnapisi/subtitle files.
1. Copy file content and paste it to Word to get a word count. For example Shrek the
Third has 9,906 words counting all the frame and time numbers.
2. Scroll down to the last frame number (1018 in this case) and multiply this number by
5. Which is this case equals 5090.
3. Subtract the number in step 2 from the original word count in step 1 (9906 - 5090)
to attain the actual number of words in the movie. In this case only 4816 words.
4. Divide the number in step 3 by 250 to get a real page count. In this case 19.264
pages.
It literally only takes about a minute to do this. Is anyone reading subtitles for
their "books"? How do you count the pages?

Serpent counts a movie as a half a book, or 50 pages.
I count one page for each five minutes, so about 12 pages an hour, but I might lower it, depending on how much reading I actually do.
