Finally getting around to creating my TAC log for 2010. Really surprised by how much two weeks away could
derail my language learning rythmn, so this will be the start of getting that routine back, and also of an
incredible year of language acquisition!
The two languages i'll be studying are Dutch and Spanish.
Dutch, because it's the main language of my family, (but i was not taught it as a child due to living in Australia)
and it's a part of my heritage. Because i was never taught the language at a young age, i've always felt as though
there was a part of me missing, and that i was somehow seperated from my family. So i look very much forward
to becoming fluent in this language and connecting with something which should have been strong and present
in my life many years ago.
Spanish. I simply find this language to be beautiful and expressive in every way possible. The literature of Spain
and Latin America is absolutely amazing, and Spanish food, art and music is among the best in the world. After
travelling through South America for awhile and picking up bits and pieces, my love of this language was
permanently imbued, and all that is left to do now, is to become fluent in it.
So my goals for this year are:
As i’m roughly at the A2 level in Dutch already, i’d really love to be at C1 by the end of the year. So i’m going to
aim high with this one, as i’m going to be spending the majority of my free time on it.
With Spanish, i’m basically starting from scratch, so if i could be at a solid B1 by the end of the year, and
perhaps be able to read some Lorca and Borges in their native idioma, i’d be very happy.
So hopefully this log will help with my explorations and learnings of different languages and cultures, and
hopefully it might also amuse, interest or possibly help others of a like minded ilk, who find the Dutch and
Spanish/Latin American languages and cultures to be extremely interesting, and most definitely fun and exciting.
Veel Liefs!

Good luck with your languages!
May I ask where your family were from? I'm curious as to what form of Dutch they speak.

In English - My family are from Enschede, so they (and i also, so i've been told) speak with a Twents dialect. My
Oma says that we talk "platte" or perhaps "plat", which i think means, that our Dutch is a bit harsh and rustic, and
that our Dutch is of the country/rural type.

-'which' in English is most often 'welk(e)' in Dutch, but when you use it there it has another meand and should be 'wat' -> wat ik denk betekent
-het dialect
-dat ... is ['is' at the end of the clause'
I love dialects and accents, the 'platter' the better!
