Nou ja, "hartstikke" is omgangstaal, ik gebruik dat als ik met vrienden spreek, maar in schriftelijk Nederlands kies ik eerder voor woorden zoals "behoorlijk".

Hallo Mieke, dank u wel voor de suggesties! Omdat mijn gezin Twents spreken, zal ik af en toe probeer aan Twents woorden gebruiken. Zo sinds ik een klein kind was, heb ik altijd hoorde mijn ouders zeggen, aju! I still find it amazing that so much rich linguistic variation and diversity can exist in such a small area. Incredible.
Bedankt voor de opheldering fausyle. Ik ben erg blij dat ik een taal log begon heb, omdat ik zo veel in de vorige twee week leerde heb! Het is fantastisch. So the last week or so i've mainly been writting emails to friends in Nederland, listening to Dutch radio and audio books, and finding and adding new vocabulary to Anki. More of a natural way of studing the language you could say. But now that it is the weekend and i have a bit of free time, i think i'll go back to the books and go over some much needed revision of the grammatical aspects of the Dutch language. On a side note, while in a little beach town in Southern Victoria over new years, my friends and i were sitting in the local pub, enjoying some drinks, and i happened to spot a corner in the room with a few books lying scattered on the shelf. After half an hour or so of curiosity, i wandered over to have a look, and to my astonishment, i find William Faulkners 'Absolom. Absolom!' In Dutch!! I couldn't believe it. It is somewhat of a travelers town, due to the quality of the surf, but I never would have expected to find Absolom. Absolom!, in Dutch, in a pub, in Southern Victoria. Made my evening! Still haven't started Spanish yet!! Very bad, i know... It's just that i know finding time for Spanish, ultimately means sacrificing time for Nederlands. But i guess if i become more aware of my time, i should be able to find an extra hour a day to which i could dedicate Spanish, whilst keeping up my Nederlands endeavours. Ik bied maar even een correctie aan: Omdat mijn gezin Twents spreekt (het gezin = enkelvoud), zal ik af en toe proberen om Twentse woorden te gebruiken. Sindsdien ik een klein kind was, heb ik mijn ouders altijd "aju" horen zeggen. {Ik ken het Twentse dialect niet, daarom is het voor mij interessant om te weten. In Venlo in Noord-Limburg zeggen ze "hoie" bij het afscheid} Ik ben erg blij dat ik met een taal log ben begonnen, omdat ik in de vorige week al zoveel geleerd heb. Hey, Vos! Thanks for the kind message! It was singing in my head all day and gave me a little kick to push through some things. In the interest of full disclosure: I go back to uni next week, so that will be the real test of whether I can sustain this rhythm. Good luck with your studies yourself--Spanish is a good choice. ;) And Dutch and German are cousins, so you've got my support!

Zo, ik heb eindelijk Spaans gisteren begonnen. Uitstekend. Ik heb gisteren ongeveer twee uren gedaan, en
vandaag ook misschien twee of drie uren. Ik hou zo veel van Spaans, wat een echte mooie taal... Ik denk ook dat ik zal goed met de twee talen studeren zijn. Op het ogenblik doe ik mijn Nederlands oefeningen, d.w.z, Anki en de Colloquial Nederlands taalboek. Maar ik denk dat ik veel meer op deze website leren, als ik in mijn taal log schrijf, en op andere mensen taal logs lees. Ook heb ik onlangs een Nick Cave opleving geweest, zeer goede muziek om naar te studeren. Is daar Nederlands woorden voor 'website' en 'log'? Of zijn ze het zelfde in Nederlands? Ook in ongeveer één week van nu zal mijn lieve vriend van Nijmegen aankomen!! Wat spannend!!! Zij gaat hier in Australië blijven voor drie maanden. Ik kan niet wachten! Finally started Spanish yesterday.. Excellent. I did around 2 hours of the Colloquial Spanish language book, started a new Anki deck for Spanish and listened to a few podcasts and audio books. Also did roughly 2 or 3 hours today. I think i'll be fine studying the two languages side by side. Also i'm going to start making different anki decks for Nederlands and Español. Perhaps individual decks for nouns, adjectives, verbs etc. Or possibly decks for different areas of life. Such as 'Travel', a 'The kitchen, Cooking and Food' deck. A 'Music and the Arts' deck and so on. I realised recently that i'm missing quite a few pivotal words in my vocabulary, and that i've also been looking up and adding certain words to Anki for the wrong reason, such as they sound and look nice, e.g. Zigeuner - Gypsy, and Vreemdeling - Stranger/Outsider. Actually i don't really think they are bad reasons for adding words, but i definitely do need to add more practical day to day words to my lists. So i can then have more basic and common words in my daily repertoire, which will then help me to construct clearer and more solid sentences, to which i can then add all those wonderfully strange and vibrant (to my ears and eyes) words. Here are some of your mistakes.
Ik heb begonnen -> Ik ben begonnen met. [begonnen is always used with zijn, not hebben. it is also always used with 'met', like 'stoppen' -> 'ik ben gestopt met roken'] twee uren -> twee uur [I'm not sure how to explain this... but for 'uur' and also 'jaar', the plural is only used if you're talking about the time from beginning to end... 'twee uur geleden' but 'ik heb uren lang op hem zitten te wachten'] In Dutch you don't use the preposition 'in' for time like in English: "in five minutes" would be either "binnen vijf minuten" or "over vijf minuten" so: in één week -> binnen één week When you have two nouns which refer to each other in Dutch they are combined into one word (in my opinion this makes more sense than keeping them apart like in English): taal log -> taallog de Colloquial Nederlands taalboek -> het Colloquial Nederlands-taalboek (if it's a proper noun then use a '-' to make the connection, and 'het boek'! though in Flanders it's often den boek...) de website (mannelijk) het internet (onzijdig) de draad/thread (mannelijk) [I've only seen the former used by Flemings] de log (vrouwelijk) het logboek (onzijdig) [a log in the traditional sense] -Maar ik denk dat ik veel meer op deze website leren -> lees -en op andere mensen taal logs lees -> en de taalblogs van andere mensen lees -Is daar Nederlands woorden... -> Bestaan/Zijn er Nederlandse woorden... -Of zijn ze het zelfde in Nederlands -> Of zijn ze dezelfden als in het Nederlands [1. hetzelfde/dezelfde is written in one word. 2. there's an 'n' added if what it's referring to drops, in this case 'woorden' 3. don't forget to use 'het' in front of Nederlands) Hope this helps.
